90s Hip Hop Mixing & Mastering - Software or Hardware?

What's up everyone.

I have a few questions, and I am looking for some tips & advice.

I make 90s east coast hip hop/boom bap beats. I have the "style & sound" down, but I feel I am lacking in mixing & mastering. I have been trying to achieve that official sound with just software/plugins in FL Studio.

I need something to make my drums bang and really stand out from the mix. Something clean, but not too clean. Possibly a compressor or some sort of mastering plugin? And I can't seem to find a reverb with "the sound".

I don't have any actual hardware, other than an old vintage vinyl record player to sample with, and an Akai MPK Mini Keyboard. Aside from that I use FL Studio.

Here is some of the plugins/software I use to mix:
Abbey Road Vinyl
Kramer Tape
J37 Tape
dbx-160 compressor
Waves renaissance comp/ Rcompressor
Waves renaissance bass / Rbass
SP950 (bit crusher with an SP sound & Akai S950 filter emulation)
TAL reverbs & bitcrushers
Izotope Ozone 7

Along with Eq'ing, and all the obvious stuff.

And endless 90s Drum kits.

Throughout my research, I found that CLA, UAD, SSL, API plugin compressors, along with Arturia and Lexicon Reverbs, may get me the mix/sound I seek.

I feel like I need to either change my DAW, or start picking up some hardware.
But I don't have a clue where to start as far as hardware. And a drum machine would be counter-productive to my workflow though, I rarely use the pads on my Akai MPK mini.

Any recommendations or tips/advice/opinions on DAWs, hardware, or software?
Mixing/Mastering & Reverb?

Thanks for your time, and thanks in advance for any advice!

Here are some references. The Link Sharer isn't letting me post the videos, so I'll drop the URL.

@ LouieOnTheBeat it's not your DAW as FL Studio is as good as the person behind the DAW, what MPK do you have/use? I own the MK3 since early April 2021 and the pads are quality as is the whole build of the controller. You don't really need hardware in the current era of music making and for mixing check:

90ies sounding drums? get an hardware sampler (akai, ensoniq), resample your drums then back to your daw. It will not sound better, it will sound 90ish.

try RX950 plugin for sound of S950 on drums on a budget.

and waveTracing SP950 for sound of SP1200 'aliasing'

Vulf compressor might be worth a demo for a 'chunky' feel.

a good warm natural sounding reverb like Liquidsoniqs Seventh Heaven really compliments the sample based hip hop I've done more than the usual suspects.

A nice Pultec EQ plug like Rule Tech.

Distortion like Sound Toys Decapitator blended into drum bus is nice.

If you want another afforable flavor of tape plug in check Flywheel

if you are using vinyl (to me the most important element because it responses to saturation in a specific way) and a S950 - you are going to get closer than most. Hardware wise (from that era) the only thing missing is tape and a console.

try wacking a instance of this (in blue mode, transformer on) on every channel, then put on bus's and flick the bus switch

I like this (model 11) on mix bus
