Favorite Ethnic Percussion Instruments

Today is one of those sample organization days for me.

I've been going through TONS of ethnic percussion today and was wondering what you guys favor in your tracks. Just looking to see if i'm overlooking any instruments or maybe there's stuff out there that I've never even heard of yet.

Peace.

I have some sick Berimbau loops, by the way.

Here's what one looks like:

(btw...the samples i have sound way cooler than that dude's playing).

Not any specific choices, but I love how much variety you can come up w/ by subtly combining world percussion/instruments/etc.

I've still got a ton of sampling organizing to do myself...

i really dig traditional japanese drums (the ones they pound with the wooden mallets). i've gotten some monster bassdrum sounds from them.

True...i've got some table loops that are a really interesting rhythm...stuff i would never even think up....so i like to take those and tweak them with some crazy plugins...then i get this great rhythmic stuff.

I love percussion one shots but the loops for me is where the magic is. Hmm...i never tried taking a groove template or anything like that off interesting loops...looks like i have to experiment with that too.

My current faves: triangle, agogo, berimbau (me too), vibra-slap, assorted shakers.

Formerly: tabla, congas, bongos and timbales.

I try to make my own percussion loops if I have the inclination and the client has the time/budget. Otherwise, I just hit the library, like most.

Cheers,
