couple quick ?'s

TB,
i have a couple simple questions that hopefully wont be too painful.

1. at what sample rate do you record?

2. when you are finalizing a mix, do you print the stereo mix through outboard gear or bounce?? if outboard, what are your favorites?

3. have you ever used a Daking Mic Pre IV and if so, whatcha think?

your friendly and accessable presence here is greatly appreciated.

thanks

-I usually go 24/48 now, but for years mixed to 24/44.1. I've done a couple of projects at 96k and found it cumbersome. Sluggish computer and long back ups. I want to go home and see my family a dinner time.
To be honest I can't hear much difference anyway.
-Never heard of that mic pre. I don't actively look for pre's. I'm covered. I've got four vintage Neve 1084's, six API+550aEQ, and a fantastic Little Labs pre I love, and now I've got 32 Toft/Trident ATB pre's as well. Gotta stop somewhere.

Do you hear a difference between 24/48 and 24/44.1 in tone, depth, etc?

Thanks

Not really. In the '90's I mixed lots of records to SADiE 16/44.1 and they still sound good to me.
I'm just not all that fussy when it comes to that stuff. If I have to flip flop more than three times in an A/B test to figure out what the difference is, I lose interest in that difference.
Also, disparity in repro systems out in the world is so great that to me, it dwarfs the sonic variance between sample rates.

I suppose you're talking about the old 512's?

Have you ever tried the new ones? Or the new 1084's to check against yours?

Thx. Doug

I worked on an API Legacy when mixing Soul Coughing/Irresistible Bliss. Couple of ODs on it sounded great.
Haven'y heard any re-issue Neves.

Why did you move to 48?

Thanks!

I seem to get a lot of work in 48/24 so I just thought I'd be consistent.
Easier on my head.
