Volume while performing

Hi there,

How do you "compete" with the volume of mastered tracks played by the DJ before you go on in a club?

Do you use some compressor/limiter or does the club PA person sort that out for you? Any idea what some other acts do? Was always curious about this.

Cheers

First of course a good sound check and communication with the sound guy who can level you when you get started so it doesn't sound like you're playing at half volume all of a sudden Secondly, when you play "in the box" (ie. Ableton) you can use a compressor/limiter on the master so that you get a little bit more punch, but be careful with it cos it can sound too "pushed" pretty quick. Same goes for going into the red on the laptop. Better to go through a small desk
