Drum Tuning

I have always admired the drum sounds on the records you did.

But a lot of the drummers you've worked with over the years seem to be the kind who are particular about their own tuning.

...So I was kinda wondering how often you actually get in there with a drum key and tune drums with your own hands.

Either way, I would think that you would have learned a thing or two about tuning drums!

Without telling any "tales out of school", do you have any observations or pointers you would like to share with us?

Hi, I dunno, it just seems like common sense to me. I don't really know that there's anything really special about it. Just make sure it's evenly tuned all round, unless you want it to change pitch slightly after the hit and for that you just loosen off one of the lugs slightly. If I were to offer any advice it would be to firstly work at it yourself and if you're not happy with the results go to a drum teacher specifically for instruction on tuning. Sorry I can't offer anything else.

Cheers
