V72

At long last I've got a pair of V72's coming which will fit in with my Colditz style control room decor. Any tips for the best way to front these ? variable pads, getting them modded, re-valving etc ?

Chances are you probably won't need to "pad" them as there is only 34db of available gain... you'll want to use them with fairly high output condenser microphones as other wise you'll usually have insufficient gain for the job at hand.

V-72's run EF804S tubes... you should probably have some fresh ones on hand. If you have access to a 'tube tester', test the ones in the modules you have, see where they're running. I've seen some in freshly purchased modules that were running as low as 6% [which is pretty ****ing bad!!, but they were sold as "perfect condition"... and I suppose the seller was correct, the paint on the module was in perfect condition...].

Best of luck.
