Hi Alan,
my mother died when I was a teen. One of the strongest memories I have of her is her singing along to Pilot's Magic. Everytime I hear it I instantly think of her and that whole album, which she nearly wore the grooves off when I was a kid.
The production on it is amazing... the little wah wah chords, the saxs, the la las in the chorus, there is so much ear candy in there. People must have flipped when they first heard it in the 70's..but, on all the Pilot stuff you produced the handclaps are awesome. A very unique clap sound. If you rememeber anything about them I'd love to hear it. So no real questions actually, just wanted to say cheers, I know that song meant an awful lot to Mum, and the production was a big part of it.

Nice comments - thanks.

The Pilot handclap sound was an idea I originally got from engineer Richard Dodd. It was recorded with Tape echo then Dolby decoded TWICE making it a very dull and thuddy sound.
