Hey all. The Stretch is up on Vintage King's site now. It will be available in Europe through the M1 Distribution network.

Units will start shipping in 4 weeks. Hope to have some videos/audio samples up soon. We've been getting a lot of great feedback from beta testers. They won't give the beta units back!

I been playin with the stretch.
I have two dolby 360's with the modded A cards to compare with.
This stretch is bad ass.
Does so much more than the modded A cards.
Has a bunch of different modes.
The blend oh man,
Really really really excellent work.

There are less than 10 out there in world at the moment. We are soooo close to being done with a big batch but experiencing long lead times for a crucial component. Super frustrating, but it'll happen.

I don't think so. With the Level-Or we were completely starting out (no dealers or distribution network) so we could offer the discount early on. Now that we have a dealers/distro, the final price ends up pretty much set.

The Stretch starts shipping tomorrow!!! Finally!

We are working on getting sound clips and everything up on the site, but the main push has been to get this first run out there. It's been one of those builds where almost everything that can go wrong has. Feels good to be done!

We are getting some feedback trickling in, so far it seems to be working well for people!

We sold out of the initial run before we even finished them, but there should be stock both in the US and internationally for a little while. Just pulled the trigger on another run...

This thread is kinda in the weeds here, so I'm not sure how many people will see it and post though.

I will say that I recently engineered a record for Greg Wells and he ended up using a Stretch on a lot of the lead vocals during mix. I also just mixed a punk rock record and used a pair on mix buss. Mix was through a tonelux summing console, with Manley Pultec -> SHMC -> Stretches. Just a little dialed in with the mix and it really just did a magical thing. Hard to describe, except I'd get super bummed when I'd bypass it!

However, consider the source... I'm a little biased!

I used to have a cassette 4-track that I would record the vocal with the DBX button engaged and then turn it off during playback. It was an overly compressed sound that excited the high frequency content. I eventually found a rack mount version of the DBX noise reduction unit where I tried to simulate the same effect as I discovered on the 4-track. It worked but even better. I recorded my first album using this effect on the vocals.

I bought this unit in the hopes that it would be a re-creation of this sound. I thought I was the only guy who knew about this, but low and behold the Standard Audio Stretch pulls it off. Not exactly the same but close enough without the "noise" of the old noise reduction unit. Haha. I can't live without this thing. With the right singer, it will give you an amazing sound. There is NO OTHER 500 series unit like this one. It has lots of different tones that you can mix in to your track using the mix knob. Its hard to explain what it sounds like. It makes the vocal sit on top of the mix easily. This is a secret weapon that many folks will ignore and I'm glad cause it's mine. "Now move along. These are not the droids you are looking for."

So far, the best 500 series compressor of 2014, IMO…

Bumping this for more replies. When will it be back in stock? Also, anyone using this on backing vox or other instruments?

I use it on several types of sounds to add high freq 'air' - such a great tool!

It's been in stock for a little while. Are you in the US?

We are getting feedback that it's getting a lot of use on all sorts of things. It's on lead vocal and kick on the new Muse and Of Monsters and Men records.

I´m surprised that there´s not more fuss about this one. It seems so cool!
Any more users out there? I´m thinking of buying one.

Where would you use it instead of adding air with an EQ? or use a Multiband comp?
In what way does it add Air to lets say a vocal that a shelving boost on an EQ cant acheive?
Is it a sound/noise thing or rather a behaviour thing?

For me its not about adding air which a good EQ can do very well, it's about adding high frequency energy and saturation which makes some vocals very forward and crisp in a cool way. I love my Stretch's. They have saved some really lousy dynamic mic vocal takes from some bedroom recordings I've had to mix. I find the basic multiband compression to really add a lot of meat and character to many things, but vocals, drum/percussion loops, and guitars really can benefit from them. Buy a pair...noisy and saturated.
