Just a quick update:

We are going to have a Stretch unit at the M1/Vintage King Listening party in Nashville this Friday https://vintagekingaudio.wufoo.com/f...istening+Party

We also plan on having a couple of units at the VKLA Event on July 20th along with myself and the other half of Standard Audio, Thom Flowers.

More news soon... Time to head to the shop and finish building these!

Ok, I'll try and give more info, some of this may have already been discussed.

I should wait on pricing and let our dealer/distributor (Vintage King in the US & M1 Distribution everywhere else) release that info when they are ready.

More info about the unit --->

The Stretch is a multi-band compression unit. The 4 bands are:

LF - 110Hz and below
MF - 110 Hz to 3kHz
HF3K - 3Khz and up
HF9K - 9kHz and up

We were initially inspired by the traditional Dolby NR "Stretch Mod", where two resistors were pulled from the board, disabling the LF and MF bands. We decided that it would be cool to be able to select multiple combinations of filters. By pressing the "Filter/Compression" button, you're able to cycle through 7 different filter combinations that we've found are the most useful.

Here are the different filter combinations. The orange HPF and LPF LEDs indicate the different filter states:

- LF, MF, HF3k: this is the "flattest" combo. LPF and HPF LEDs off
- LF, MF, HF3k, HF9K: This is full-range, but with added 9kHz and up. LPF LED off, HPF LED slowly pulses
- HF3K only: Good for adding bite. HPF LED is dim. LPF is off
- HF3K and HF9K: Adds air. Awesome on vocals. HPF LED is bright. LPF LED is off
- LF only: Great for adding weight. LPF LED on, HPF LED off.
- LF, HF3K: Extends both top and bottom. LPF LED is on, HPF LED is dim
- LF, HF3K, HF9K: Similar to above condition but with the added air from HF9K band. LPF LED on and HPF LED bright

I know that it can seem like a lot to try and digest all of these settings, but what we've found is that you can just cycle through all of them easily by pressing the filter button until you find something you like. The LPF/HPF filter LEDs do a good job of showing what's going on.

Each band has its own dynamics circuit and attack & release times. There is a fixed threshold and by adjusting the input knob, you can set how the compressor(s) hit the signal. The LED on the "filter/compression" button will light when any of the active compression stages is compressing.

With the mix knob you can blend in the Stretch signal in with the dry signal.

The engage button switches in a true-hardwire bypass, so it is very easy to compare between original, un-processed signal, and the Stretch.

The output gain knob is AFTER the mix knob. Once you have a mix/blend that you like, changing the output level will not affect the mix.

Ok, that's a good start I think. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Ian

I honestly don't know. That's a good question for Vintage King and/or M1.

Maybe? It's not THAT big of a secret. Probably in the $600-700 USD range.

So many reasons for me to get on the 500 format. I was originally planning to get a lunch box to take two EZ1073's. I am now planning to get a big one to get more special little pieces like this. Looks very exciting.
I am assuming it's a mono beast?

Yes. But we've found many uses for stereo pairs. I had a lot of fun with a pair on drum buss. Thom (Standard co-owner) has been using them on mix buss and really digs it.

Not linkable, and haven't had a problem with that.

It wouldn't really be possible to link these using the 500 series format because there are 4 independent compression bands and would require linking all 4 bands. The 500 series just has one connection available to link modules.

Yes!!! I was too successful and couldn't deal with the pressure. I came back so I could just get back to making music for the fun of it.

By the way the 19" stereo Stretch is awesome! Not quite as cool as your next device though

Don't use the 500 format to make the link. Add a jumper cable internally that will tie the two together. easy.

Yes, this is a good idea and something we investigated. In the end, the extra cost/complexity wasn't a trade-off we wanted to make for the 500 series module. Especially as we have yet to have encounter a problem with not having a link.

Now... if we were to perhaps make a mixing/mastering stereo rack mount version, it might be another story...

No hard release date yet. We are currently in the process of beta-testing what we hope to be the final iteration of the design. Due to standard production lead times, once we have a final go-ahead with the prototype, it's about 8 weeks out for an assembly run to be finished.

any news yet on the price (€)? is it possible to upload some preview files how the stretch behaves on basslines, for example a synth bass with dynamic highs in it (303 style)?

As of right now, our estimated street price in the US is $649. I'm not 100% sure how that translates to Euros, but at least it will give you a reference. We are currently working on getting some sound samples as well as a handful of videos that go over the various filter modes. We do plan on processing some synth bass sounds as part of the sound sample set. When they are ready, you'll be able to listen to them on our site (like the Level-Or samples).

Yes! The first production run is currently underway and we expect to have it done in mid to late January. We've been getting some really great feedback from beta testers. Can't wait for you guys to hear it!!
