forget it, it won't work beyond iOS 7 anyway!!!
(apogee's support for anything but the most recent OS and their latest products sucks!)

Sorry you seem to have had a bad experience.

however I don't think their products suck.... and.... I am using my Apogee 16x converters (in advanced routing mode - so 32 ch I/O) with an HDX-2 rig - and they are performing flawlessly. (as is my Symphony IO)

Is there any difference in sound quality when recording to an iPad versus a Mac? I would like to use the Apogee Quartet with an iPad during recording because the iPad is silent, whereas my Mac Pro has a pretty loud fan. I would like to record to the iPad and then transfer the tracks to my Mac Pro for mixing. Am I going to experience any downgrade in quality by capturing to the iPad instead of directly to the Mac?

Does the Quartet work in standalone mode as mixer?

Does it power the iPad too?

Still wondering about any difference in sound recording quality between using Mac or iPad's host.

If it's recording at the same bit and sample rate, I don't think that is an issue.
