So we have now the best software de-esser on the planet !?
At least in my opinion, because I tried so many and was never 100% satisfied.
Many of them are quite good, but you have to apply them with subtle settings 2-3 times to get very good results.
Pro-DS is also so easy to use - very well done.

That's why I don't use D-essers. I labouriously attenuate S's using automation, and that can be very time consuming. On occasions I have to resort to using them sometimes.

Good to hear the FF plug does not mess with the other frequencies - as every other one seems to...

This plugin was the simplest purchase ever. In the first minute of demo I realized that it is in a league of its own. It stomps all over every other SW or HW deesser. I mean I could say it sounds like automating esses and you set it up in a second. Real timesaver. Great work Fabfilter!!!

I've done this a lot too. However, ProDS will certainly make me happy on tracks loaded with sibilance issues. It sounds very transparent to the point of acceptability IMO.

One thing I noticed upon demoing the plug was that even though the frequency selector thing was in a range that would normally catch Ss and Fs.. It only caught the Ss. Most de essers hit everything that's in the range but this correctly identified the Ss only and left out other sounds that might if normally been caught in the frequency range and reduced. It was even reflected by the moving waveform. Pretty cool.

How does it compare to the Sonnox SuprEsser?
Was going to buy it since it's 40% off at the moment.

Might grab both

How is it that I feel like I flat out 'Need' every FabFilter Plugin? They just always work, work well, and sound great. This one is no exception.

Tried it, bought it! My E2 deesser is dead in Lion/Logic and I'm not in love with my other 3 tools. This one was dead easy to set up and "magically" seemed to pinpoint those harsh s's and reduce them. Really nice.

I tried it with some high resonance sounds from P08 and I am impressed how well it works. This plugin is a must buy for me.

FF plugins are stupidly good,
they're the only company that can take a simple tool
like a gate or a deesser and make it exciting, turn it into
a creative tool for mixing.

I tried this on OH that had the dreaded splashy cymbals
and i swear is the only plugin that can invisibly soften
the harshness without killing the top end, the snare and everything else.
Next try on distorted guitars, i bet is great on those as well

Agreed on making stupid good plugins. I only own pro q, but they made using just as amazing as the audio coming out of the thing, amazing.

After using FabFilter Pro-DS, I won't ever use the other de-essers I've used up until now (Waves, Sonnox, Toneboosters, compressor+eq sidechain).
I might still use some manual work for de-essing, but this saves me a lot of time!

Big thumbs up to Fab-filter.

While Alloy is very good, this one has a quality of preserving the high frequency content, because of this "inteligent" way of working only on the "ess"-es, which makes it remarcable and superior.
