Don't get confused fellers, this thing is a VCA compressor, i.e. SSL-ish family area. The previous reference of Neve stuff was in regard to the CL1mkII. Two entirely different boxes.

Yeah. Karloff is right. It is a VCA buss compressor , we're only talking about sonic similarities due to the Carnhill transformers and Class A path. Has nothing to do with Neve's gain reduction and diode bridge designs.

Ah,that's good to know. I "was" getting confused. An SSL vca path with a Neve-like warmth? Is that what we're looking at then? If so, that could be interesting. Especially if, bypassing the transformers brings you back to a transparent version of the traditional SSL vibe...

BC2-ME finaly starts to ship this week.

The TK Audio BC2-ME is now at ZenPro Audio, initial impressions are very good (I like the optional BEEF of the switchable Carnhill transformer output section!) and it has a very fine control with the stepped design so you have small increments to work with.

I hope to have audio and video posted in the Clipalator by tomorrow.

It was a pleasure to test the BC2-ME over the weekend. Almost impossible to make it sound bad, looks gorgeous and suited my weekends mastering session so well that I decided to keep it. I'll test it with different material the next days and post my impressions.

Well it took me long enough to clear out a day to spend with the BC2-ME but I finally have audio in the Clipalator on our stereo mix (which is the same mix I always use on stereo compressors, has a wide dynamic range that needs to be reigned in and purposeful stray elements that benefit from "glue"). Units are on the shelf and shipping, too.

The Class A output section is definitely a nice touch, growing the size of things and enhancing bass response, as well as a bit more refined / richer sort of tone.

The THD circuit is very good as well, bringing a gentle excitement to things without really sounding distorted (more pleasing, with a "fizz" that you definitely miss when you mute it).

The compressor section's additional low ratio settings are very nice for more gentle work (has a 1.25:1 for example).

I´m sorry to wake this thread.

But I tried the BC2ME some time ago and wanted to share my experience on this one.

Long time owner of the BC1 but now it is sold. It had the compression-feel to it but lack of sound imo. Used to the gfx384 so i did not replace the feel.

A short demo of the BC2 was all I needed to be convinced that this sound really good! with the THD and class A pushed in it sounded like the SSL bus compressor! It had a depth and to that the almost flat feel that is so good on rock music.

Just hoping to get some cash to get this one soon!

SO adding more VCA's to lower the noise threshold. Curious what that's about and how one would go about doing that? Is it a matter of opening the unit and making a mod?

A new VCA modul will be needed and the components that forms the VCA in a stock unit has to be removed. We do not offer that kind of mod or a "multi" VCA modul.

So, did you eventually get this unit? Are your thoughts still the same?
