System 6000 MKII

Has anybody some info about the changes and developments for the new TC Electronic System 6000 MKII?
T.C. Helicon has this as news from the 23th of March ...

I didn't see that coming.

What has been upgraded compared to the original?

I'd love to see this happen. I look forward to hearing more.

TC told me about a year ago that there were no plans to upgrade the DSP capacity of the System 6000. Maybe they meant no plans to be able to swap in more DSP into the old hardware.

I really like the 6000 but run up against its DSP limits often enough (doing mostly 2fs). Also some algos just don't work at 2fs (Vari-Pitch, Backdrop NR)

Thanks for posting this,
Silas

I never had the pleasure of a 6000, but I do have to say that TC has the easiest user interface of just about any digital gear I've owned.

I've had enough trouble fending off my growing need to own a System 6000, and now that just got way, way, way worse.

A lot of interest in a product with no more apparent details than what's shown in the photo. Either TC's products are guaranteed winners... or you guys are nuts.

I found out by a short answer in the TC forum that there is a new version of the System 6000 coming. As an owner of two System 6000s I would like to see more info for sure. That's why I posted this here. The corresponding TC-Helicon page is of no help either.
TC-Helicon Press | Ultimate reverb and processing for any format
Obviously they don't let the 6000 fade out which is a good sign from a company that gave the impression in the last years it is not interested in the pro studio field anymore.

According to the information I got at Musik Messe :

* It's a new mainframe - more I/O flexibility (better network support)
* You can use your current ICON (Mk I) with the new mainframe
* It will have the exact same software as the current System 6000 - no new algorithms

Thank you ... but has it more processing power (DSP)?

I asked several times - they wouldn't answer that question - I only got 'It's an updated mainframe and it will have better I/O handling'. They also kept saying better network support.

I also asked several times about the software - They answered (multiple times) 'No new software'.

This is much needed. I deal with four 16 channel expanded system 6000's. The network & preset handling is the weakest link with the current 6000's. Horrible pcmcia card slots. The current mainframes are pretty dated now. (windows embedded computers in a 19" rack)I'm sure that hardware is hard to find/obsolete. Supporting something that old is economically bad for TC i'm sure. Not sure how the i/o can be improved. Different format options? The current aes i/o is fine with me.
I'm excited for one.

My biggest gripe about the 6000 is the crappy floppy disk saves, and the gripe get bigger when faced with the option to buy a 1Mb (yes... One Megabyte) PCMCIA flash card to make saves.
If the new machine has a network save option things would be very cool (and of course there is no reason on Earth not to port that option to the older 6000 as it also uses Ethernet to connect to the Icon controller).

New I/o : MADI???

Good question!
It must have more dsp since the older system 6000 has 10 year old chips. Also if they are going to continue to develope new plugs (and verbs), they'll need more power. Per channel, I believe a Bricasti has about 40 times the power of the 6000.

Since years it is possible to save over the network with the software Icon.
I don't know if the software still cost that much - I have the hardware Icon and a license for the software Icon and use it regularly to backup my banks to computers. Furthermore you can dump any single engine patch/preset, all engines at once, just the routing or one scene including everything via MIDI sysex. Note the additional 'File' button in a screen shot I just did to show where this function is.

They still have the old manuals linked from the new product pages, so no substantive details are available yet.
There is a video http://www.youtube.com/v/uPdeg8itXyQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1,
but it is almost entirely of the metalwork being produced! I like the black chassis better anyway, so that's not doing much for me.
The only definitive announcement is that they are dropping software support for the original 6000. There is an upgrade page that has a little more info, but no pricing. I paid $3K for my system, and I'm betting that the upgrade will require me to double the investment. If you paid full retail then the upgrade won't be such a big leap

@ nkf: I must have been blind all these years to not see that "file" button. Thanks a lot!
Do you know if the automation can be network saved too because we use it a lot being in post?

Website mentions an "88" mixer; don't know if it's a true matrix mixer or not.

I have no clue ... I have never used automation, only static scenes.
