Yeah it’s another rabbit hole like when I went deep into analog summing....
I used to clock from a BLA analog to digital converter which was receiving the stereo sum and going back into an Apollo digitally. If I was more affluent I would have preferred to go back into a separate computer/daw as that is meant to be the ideal level of complexity.
I find it mentally stimulating to utilise every connection I have available to me.
I picked up a mytek clock for cheap which has about 6 outputs + video, so when I had all my TC, Lexicon Reverb’s I used that as a master and had to wire up word clocks and spdif for communication. I felt that the sound was better represented using the mytek compared to the inbuilt clock on the verbs.
I’ll use a digital converter to give me optical feeds and spdif as well as aes for monitoring and metering. Running different feeds to multiple sets of speakers.
I used to sit on a studio floor thinking how good it would be to just have a laptop and do everything in it.
I don’t need a master clock at the moment for any other purpose than if there is a subjective improvement to the sound.
Frankly I could do with the money if I sold it and the lesser headache of the Apollo on occasion flashing with no sound as it has moved to spdif as a clock input rather than word clock. Plus it would be less Lecy and space taken.
But as you know I will often compare uad 3rd party plugs to the native versions and for me I generally always hear the uad to be better with more definition or weight. Even when I am told they null each other.
I know in BoB Katz mastering books he talks about added jitter etc but still I have found an improvement for me
However I am ready to do some further listening tests so see if I am indeed just a jittery person

My setup is much more simple than before as I am in a very confined space plus I can now leave a lot of things as they have been explored.
I rarely finish a track as either I have a brainstorm to dismantle my studio to re-configure it far too often to add some other piece of gear or because I’ve sold something or just to make the flow better. Otherwise I’m testing out too many plugs or upgrading or beta testing reporting bugs.
I think I have an aversion to arranging my tracks, I must look at that......
So yeah I am on constant loop listening to all the nuances of the sound and the processes used, no chance to finish anything when I am looking at the minute detail rather than the overall picture....
