Is there a way i can have both FirComp and the low ratio FirComp installed? I've used FirComp in a lot of projects already and i don't want to break compatibility at this point. But i do want to be able to use the low ratio version.

Unfortunately there isn't, but it is possible to use V2 and V1 at the same time, and the ratio in V2 goes down to 1.01.

Alternatively, adjusting the dry / wet mix is somewhat similar to having a low ratio. (There's no exact equivalent as depends on thresh & knee size etc, but you can get ballpark results).

Mac OS Big Sur Cubase 10.5 says "developer not identified" and will not see the plugin or load.

How do I get past this?

Thanks for any assistance.

EDIT: wrong thread but I'll just leave it here rather than double post Should have posted in the FirComp2 thread.

Before copying the plugin to the destination folder, did you run the fircomp2_unquarantine.command script file? Detailed instructions on the fircomp 2 homepage under "Installation". If that doesn't work, try validating it with system preferences open. If that doesn't work, let me know

Yes, I suggested Dan to check out the Fircomp, when we were chatting about his (fantastic) YT tutorials.
What a brilliant guy he is!

What voodoo is this? I was skeptical at first but now, after some deep listening tests, I'm sold. I'm really loving this on the mix bus behind a good character comp. It almost seems like a Hilbert transform kind of thing going on with this comp. Amazing work Jon. I'm sure I'll be picking up Fircomp2 in no time.

hi, with the same settings v2 sounds different than v1, why? (very little less punchy, it seems..)

V2 uses a slightly different way of detecting peaks, that is slightly cleaner (a slight evolution of the method used in V1). The attack and release behaviour is the "same", but will obviously be very slightly different because of this

I love this thing so much already. Honestly up there with my Valhalla purchases which are some of the best I've made. Thank you for such an excellent compressor Jon, I hope it's sold a bunch and look forward to whatever your working on next, if at all.

Would be amazing if V2 had a switch to go back to the V1 behaviour in that respect actually. I still quite often prefer the slightly more rounded and beefy V1.

Also, am I doing it wrong or is it that you can only have VCA mode OR the attack release coupling mode at the moment, but not both? Would love VCA and separated attack and release.

A V1 peak detection option should be quite easy, I will consider this for the next update

You are not doing anything wrong In VCA mode, the attack and release are coupled and it's a completely different design, decoupling is possible but not necessarily desirable. The coupled mode is just a slight modification of the original peak mode.

The video I made touches on this a little bit, but here's a quick analogy for anyone else reading:

Imagine attack time is your starter meal, and release time is your main meal. In coupled mode, they both arrive at the same time on the same plate and you eat them together, and the size of both affects how long it takes to eat both, as you are alternating each bite. But in decoupled mode, your starter arrives first, and if it takes you longer to eat it, your main meal (that arrives afterwards) will take even longer to be finished. That's the math-free explanation anyway

Just felt weird to me to have the release be dependent on the attack setting, even when going for punch, but not that important, and thank you for the explanation!

But if you add a switch for V1 peak detection, and that makes V2 sound identical to V1, THAT to me is quite a big deal and rather exciting. :-)
