Next time you snap a drummer to a grid
Hand them a box of tissues and tell them to click here:

thumbsup Wow - what a talented kid.
I love the way the video player can't keep up and you just have a blur of drum-sticks flying around like light-sabers. |
I just knew it was going to be a kid playing drums. I've seen a video of him before...maybe playing the Roland V-Drums?
Anyway, what do I do the next time I slap a drummer to the ground? |

No matter how old you are that level of playing takes countless hours of
practice. Dedication, focus, diligence and tenacity. To witness that in someone so young is unbelievable. How do you keep a twelve-year-old that focussed? Let me know, would ya? Maybe Tiger knows. |
That's an old clip. He's like 21 or 22 years old now. Still a good one though.
That's what happens when you take lessons from Dennis Chambers. |
Holy smokes...
War-
Actually WORTH the 8 minutes! I'm impressed! that was sooooo good...where do I send the flowers? |

It is a remarkable video.
The kid had serious executional skills for that age. I think it's safe to say that 12 years old is an age when a lot of the muscles you need need to deliver that level of "Cobham and Rich" are still developing and growing. But to me... the MOST impressive thing in this kids performance, is level of pacing, posture and relaxation during the development and delivery of the solo. This is where you can clearly see how well this kid was coached. NOBODY has that stuff at age 12 without very careful tutelage. Inspiring. Gotta love great young drummers. Nothing like them. Now... if we can get... and KEEP, a few of the better ones interested in playing in rock bands, especially after they realize the hierarchy of 'fireworks' vs. 'trench digging', I may return to the church and wear out a few pews. But that has ALWAYS been the rub... eh? SM. |
Wow,
Very inspiring! PS.... so thats what a double kick pedal is for :-)..... -Lee |
Even a 4 year old drummer can SUCK! gooof

The "kid's" name is Tony Royster Jr. He took lessons from Dennis Chambers. He currently lives in Atlanta and frequently plays in local jam sessions. He's 22 I believe; and if you think that video is something, you should hear him now. His pocket is unbelievable. He's not just a drummer, he's an all out percussionist.

I've seen this before, and it always cracks me up that he dedicates it to Tony Williams but plays more like Mike Portnoy and Terry Bozzio...

does everyone see this video ok but me? Its all glitchy and it skips. Try to download it and it freezes my browser. In my other browser I can't even see the download button or the player controls
God, I hate Google video. what am I paying all this money for a cable modem so I can watch this crap I mean I assume the kid is great, but I am getting 3 notes and then a pause and then a few more notes |

That is amazing. How do you get a 12 year to that level of concentration. Damn, all I remember my son saying at 12 yrs was "No". Ahh, now it all makes sense. He heard my wife say that sooo many times....... |
|
I have seen that before. I had wondered what he is doing now. Kinda sucks, ya'know, he is probably playing small places for little money, and Meg White sells millions of records. (not a knock on the stripes, I dig them)
|
Maybe you have'nt heard of them yet... but there's always somebody better.

i figured i should bring back this thread for a minute with this video. for lovers of rock music only.
Hella. Hella again. |
Dennis Chambers lives 10 minutes from me. I used to work in a music store 16 years ago and he would come in with a coffee in his hand and tear off the most amazing 1 handed **** ever without spilling a drop. this guys plays a lot like him.

I would call that more like........... "expirimental"...............I think.........maybe. heh
Don't get me wrong I dig "expirimental" music. These guys could be the Ornette Coleman of heavy metal. heh Is it just drums and guitar? |
maybe the awful sound of these videos makes them sound less rock and roll. i'd say try to find an mp3 of something from their "Hold Your Horse Is" LP. if that's not rock and roll i don't know what is.
it was drums/guitar for the first two records. they go around with a full band now. i think the first two albums were their "hey-day!" though. they're more "composer genius" now. |
Just try playing a 4 hour gig with that kid. I bet you'd want to strangle him before the end of the 1st set.
