I was asked to do the acoustical consulting for an already on-going recording studio construction.

It started first with the noise control for the HVAC system





We soundproof the entire duct system and created a special silencer for the tracking room

Next step...treating the control room.

We used anti-vibration pads down to 8 Hz for the soffit mounts. We had to increase significantly the load to get to the right point

We are currently closing the soffit mounts. We made the front wall quite heavy and with great damping to avoid passing sympathetic vibrations to the entire system.





And we are doing a "Front First Wall approach" meaning we build from the front and decide upon measurements what we are doing to do next. We do have a plan for the room but we decided to do measurements every step of the way as well as taking subjective listening experiences to get the best out of this room. Nothing is set on stone.

With no bass traps in the rear and middle of the room, this is the frequency response after closing the soffit mounts partially. The room still is quite live in the mid and high frequency spectrum.

Around 16 sqm; 5.4 per 3 m. it is a small control room

There is still a great road ahead.

We are now working on the control room but we still need to do the tracking room as well :-)

All the hard building work is from my client, I just to the acoustical consulting

Yes, we are constantly measuring the room upon every phase of the construction.

We closed the soffit mounts and got this frequency response (see image below). The room already sounds quite flat.There is quite a big space behind the soffit mounts filled with rock wool that is working as a bass trap

We are going to use tuned bass traps to get rid of the valleys at 70-80 Hz and broadband bass traps for the 100-200 Hz range placed in the corners in the rear wall and also in specific points in the side walls.

Measurements are for both speakers separately and both working at the same time

We start building the custom bass traps to be tuned at 80 Hz. This is the wood shell of the bass traps to be placed in the rear wall of the control room.

Building custom tuned bass traps with target frequency of 77 Hz.

Our theoretical model shows a peak around 79-80 Hz, the bass traps end up with a real measured peak at 76 Hz

There will be several small boxes to control the bass placed at rear wall as well as typical broadband bass traps
