How do I format audio into PCMA or PCMU?

HI everyone, I am a newbie and using Pro Tools 9 to create music and messages on hold and voice overs. Can anyone tell me how do I format audio into PCMA or PCMU? I think it is also known as u-law or a-law. I am using Pro Tools 9 on Mac OS Lion. Thanks so much!

You might try posting on the Gearslutz Computer forum, or better yet on an Apple Macintosh forum. Avid will probably be of no help. This is really more of a computer software issue than an audio issue, even though your "data" happens to be audio-based.

The PCMU and PCMA codecs are usually incorporated in a VoiP client. One such client for the Mac platform is Megafon.

Haven't ever used it so don't know if it will allow storage of the compressed VoiP files, but it may be worth a try.

I've never seen a plug-in for ProTools that included the codec(s) but there may be one somewhere. Search for "PCMU and PCMA codec plug-in".
