TFPro Alice 828 Mk3

I'm so glad Ted Fletcher is doing so well, and still building great gear!

Check this out (notice the grin of a Cheshire cat):

I have never heard of Alice. After watching that video though, I think I'll buy anything that guy will make! Are these particularly expensive consoles? Any idea on the price point?

40 years ago I lusted after an Alice 828 - I hired one whenever I could - a lovely sounding little desk. Most prosumer stuff was just rubbish back then. I can't see it on the website yet...

Recording on a red TFPro right now. Preamp has flavor and compression is smooth. Good stuff.

So great to see Ted Fletcher still being up and running!

I was in contact with him a few years ago and never met a legend more helpful, kind and responsive.

In our times of exciting new developments, old knowledge still holds its value.

Now that’s a way to promote a product Down to earth non hyperbolic, calmly extolling the desks features with understated words like... nice, quite good, works well, comfortable, decent metering etc. Certainly got me curious.
And what a charming man.

The 500-series stuff is available already. Not sure what quantities he has on hand, though.

We have a couple of his new P38EX Mk2’s, and they are wonderful to have permanently on the 2bus!

FYI: In case some do not know, Ted was the guy that designed the original Joe Meek gear.

Legend!

Title refers to the man and the mixer

Ted has an incredibly bonafide career behind him and I have had a number of friendly amusing chats on the phone with him about an issue with my preowned P9 which he currently has to sort out.

I second what’s been said on here that he’s a top bloke. Anyone who buys one of these (or anything else from him) can be sure of first class service from the legend himself! (He always comes across pretty humble so I hope he’ll forgive me for hyping him so much but he deserves it! If you doubt it google him!)

what's the latest on the mk3?

I have a mk2 which I absolutely love. Ted Fletcher was incredibly helpful with helping me trouble shoot it when I first picked it up, he's a real class act!

This looks like a cracking reboot of a much loved classic.

At £1,750 it ain't gonna be cheap, but the price some of these small vintage consoles go for these days, why not get a quality, newly-built one like this.

I hope Ted is in business with some serious financial backing for what he calls his 'retirement' project and can avoid all that happened when JoeMeek folded (or was bought out) 20 years ago.

One question... did the original Alice consoles have 100mm faders or 60mm like this new one?

I believe aux sends are mono - returns are stereo onto the mix bus.

The limited edition is £1950 + vat available in 5 funky colours and has a relay on each mic fader.

We have only made two of each of the colours.

Hi James

The 828 Mk3 is £1750. It's expensive to manufacture as everything is done here in the UK. It's hand assembled and tested in North Yorkshire.

We are only making small batches in order to keep the quality as high as possible.

The 1228 will be out perhaps later this year or early 2022.

Unfortunately not. Its 20mm too big to rackmount and space is tight enough as it is, but it was seriously considered.

Ted is a great dude with a hell of a legacy behind him. I have 6 of his stereo compressors ranging from an early SC2 v1.07 (no output gain knob!) through the P38EX Mk II. I run my entire electric drum kit through what I call the "VC-mixer" (2 VC1's and 6 VC6's). My sound is Ted's sound, and I coudn't be happier.
