I don't know how important this is to everyone else here but cruising the ReasonTalk forum I found out that the ability to opt out of sending usage data and such has gone away in R12. Was there in R11 and earlier but it has gone away. Top that off with several less than stellar reviews of R12 on YouTube has me staying away from this (I'm still on R8.3). Actually there's one more reason (ouch) I'm staying away - you STILL can't host vi's in the Rack when it's in your daw of choice.

Oh yeah - Reason 12+ you need to be online all the time but supposedly they're working on changing that. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I just use the rack and am offline most of the time...
Just happy to be able to see the GUI 😂

Has anyone else noticed R12 to be a slightly "sticky" while using? It's nothing huge but.. Like the GUI and usage generally would be slightly slower than it used to be.

A slower than before gui is one of the major hits with R12. A lot of it supposedly having to do with the new HD graphics - but even that is half-arsed.

How is it on CPU efficiency? I still have version 10 and I don't really mind the graphics, so if 12 is slower in any way then I'm probably not interested.

According to their unofficial forum (reasontalk) - quite a few people have issues with performance on Reason 12 like slower loading times, blank screens etc. and are trying to roll back to version 11 until things are more refined in upcoming updates. Some other people don't have problems at all.

Well that’s some dodgy sales practice — if you’re on the fence and haven’t bitten yet, buy it now because we’re going to put the price up. How long has it been for sale, a couple of weeks?!

We wanted reach out and tell you that in two weeks time we will be increasing the price of Reason 12. If you own a previous version of Reason, the price to upgrade to Reason 12 will increase from $129 to $199 (£199, €199, CAD259), while the full version of Reason for new users will increase from $399 to $499 (£499, €499, CAD599). Oh, and if you have Intro/Lite, your price to upgrade will go from $299 to $399 (£399, €399, CAD489).

We want to make sure you have sufficient time to buy or upgrade to Reason 12 before the new prices come in effect on October 1st 2021, so anybody on the fence about when to purchase Reason 12, this is it. Seriously, no time like the present!

Reason came out in the year 2000. You know when the last price increase was? Never. For context, that's:

29 iPhones
5 US Presidents
3 Popes
6 Olympic Games
The Millennium Bug scare
The Higgs Boson
Plus Spotify, Netflix, Facebook, Instagram, Wikipedia, Uber, SpaceX, YouTube, Bitcoin and Tesla ago Phew!
Okay, you get the picture. A lot has happened since we released Reason and set that original price. So why now?

Well the truth is, we want to ensure we can keep developing Reason to be the best it can be and delivering on the features we see you asking for (and maybe even wow you with some you never knew you needed!)

Last week our CEO, Niklas Agevik announced what we've got planned for Reason's future. You can read that here.

Thanks for coming with us on this wild ride over the last two decades. Here's to many more decades of music-making with Reason Studios.

Yes it was an email, just saying to find out more about the price increase follow the link to this:......

They keep sending me emails to upgrade or thanks for the 1 week trial that I never took...
I have already upgraded a couple of weeks ago...

There was also an email a week or so ago from the CEO saying they will finish the GUI HD etc and their onward plans....
Neglected to mention about any price hike then though....

From what I m reading between the words is a worrying trend.

My guess is that they are trying to take money and take advantage before BF start taking people money on other stores, because their latest release isn't selling as it is supposed to sell.

That guess of mine is connected to the fact that nothing like this was mentioned by their CEO in their public article where they talked on how they will finish the GUI HD etc and their onward plans....Just week ago.

It's a guess so take it with a grain of salt. I will upgrade not because of price hike but because I think it's worth it anyway. I planned to upgrade way before they announced price hike.

I am also getting ton of their silly emails about Reason + and how they are sad seeing I did not renew my subscription even though I never started it in the first place.

At this point I am unsure do they have so amateurish marketing team which don't know how to tag and fragment their userbase so we are all receiving their spammy promotions or they just send everything to everyone in hope someone will bite it hence I am worried by this trend.

It's like they are being desperate. I know this is just my personal observation so like I said in the beginning take it with a grain of salt.

I am not even going to lengthy discussion on their silly tactic to make Reason more appealing by releasing new sound packs every week.

Like Reason wasn't appealing in the first place on it's own (it was and it is)

These packs are below any standard. If you think about it - who need that? Packs are extremely lame and childish. Like you download a pack and then you realize it's 8 presets created with their most simple device and of course they all sounds bonkers. You download 30 packs named after self created genres only to find that 1 or 2 packs are something worth it.

You know right away something is wrong with whole "sound pack every week" idea when you realize that the best thing about pack is their picture (cover) design. Yes most of them are that bad so the only worth thing is nice picture.

They dig their own hole with that silly release schedule. Quality over quantity - they never heard for that?

It's like when Sony Mobile decided that to conquer mobile market they need to release new phones every 6 months. We all know how that ended.

When companies like Propellerhead that are artistic and specialised take in a CEO who comes from other big companies (If I understood that right), slowly the brand will become more stupid and annoying.
Cringe advertising, illogical pricing, etc.

Propellerhead used to be a cool niche company similar to Elektron and Ableton. Their packaging was slick and minimalist, they had ironic and fun ads and Reason was a super high-quality product where everything was carefully designed to give you a hardware experience in the box.
Reason Studios is just a mess in comparison. Reason 12 is slow, unstable, bloated (so many useless REs!!) and feels like a cheap product. The compassion app is enough for me to not want to subscribe - so annoying!
It's so sad cause I loved Reason back in the golden version 3-6 days.
