Nice, but it looks like they’ve killed the X Rack with this refresh, which is not so nice. Much prefer the 9000 series to 4000, and now no way of accessing that in hardware. Was hoping to get a full X Rack sidecar at some point.

I think they actually killed it years ago.

Two more questions, what does the focus button exactly do? Does the channel comp have the problems with bass heavy material as the six channel comp?

That Ultraviolet just got on my short list.

If I understood correctly, activating the Focus makes the q very narrow and increases the available gain from +/-9db to +/-18db for the mid bands.

SSL, please release a 500 series summing module or rack so I can combine the Six Channels and 500 Bus Comp into a single lunchbox.

The Cranborne Audio 500R8 and 500ADAT do exactly this - plus they have inserts on every slot.

I've yet to use any SSL product, but have been super intrigued lately and almost pulled the trigger on the SSL SiX this week, but threw my money at a Purple MC77, and planned to make the SiX my next big purchase. But adding one or two of these new SiX channels could be a nice move in the more immediate future.

I tell you guys, it's a brilliant move to produce high quality, feature-rich options at a price point that's within range of a lot more of us on smaller budgets. I felt like I was buying a car when I got the MC77, and have owned several cars worth less!, but I could reasonably fork over some loot for a new SiX Channel without having to teeter over the "Buy Now" button for 6 weeks.

I'm excited to add some SSL to my studio. It'll be a whole new flavor.

It looks like it is two different impedance for TRS and two other for the Mic. So still only two for the microphone input.

[email protected] and others with knowledge: What does the SuperAnalogue stand for in the SiX Channel compared to SuperAnalogue in context of 9000/Duality or the X-Rack XR621 module?

To my understanding the original SuperAnalogue design topology was not easily transferred to 500-series due to current (power) limitations of the 500 standard. 

Very interested in the SiX Channel nevertheless. Looking to get a pair.

UV has the High- and Low- shelf filters from the Fusion, but with 2 parametric mid bands +/-9 dB. Focus takes the very top range of the very narrowest Q settings and goes to +/- 18 dB. Not quite the same as a digital notch, but massively useful for cutting out problem frequencies. When boosted it almost sounds like it's getting towards self-oscillation and can be used creatively.

SiX Channel is the same as one of the mono channels of a SiX except that we've tweaked the compressor. I personally like the hard knee SSL grab on the SiX one-knob comp but as some have pointed out the time constants can suffer a bit with LF content. New version has a much softer knee and tweaked time contants. Otherwise the same.

Have you also remodeled the ssl vhd 500 series mic pre? Or is that one discontinued in favor of the newer 500 series channel strip?

I’m in europe and I just pulled the trigger on one, I just contacted our local dealer to see if they can order one and they hooked it up. Been looking for a 4 band eq for buss/stereo buss duties and this seemed to fit the bill, hopefully i can get one from the first batch which I believe should be arriving sometime in May.

I noticed Gear4music seems to have them listed also.

Good question. SuperAnalogue as a design philosophy means low distortion, flat frequency and minimum phase shift and this is achieved by a number of design choices including no electrolytic caps in the audio path, no VCAs and some other things people more clever than me invent.

Does the SiX channel have the same design as and XR621? No. Does a Duality? Yes. Do either of those have exactly the same thing as a 9000J? No. Can the Six Channel not drop by 3dB until well over 150kHz like an XR621? No. Do you need that?

Clean, fast, minimum distortion, minimum phase shift = SuperAnalogue


The VHD+ 500-series Mic Pre has been updated. This is a different design to the SiX Channel and has our Variable harmonic drive circuit in it, Like an Origin or a Duality.

We'd been expecting them all to arrive this week. Air freight is incoming, units will be shipping in Europe and the US shortly.

maybe two more line inputs for mixdown

So many people would buy the TwelVe! I'm hoping for a summer NAMM TwelVe launch.

How about a ”TvalVe” version with an added valve stage in there somewhere?

I'm interested now in how the new Six compressor sounds compared to the old one.
