You mean windows media player? No, not by default.

If you're ripping from a CD then you can tune it to do that.

If you're looking to convert mp3 to wav, use Audacity.

When you burn a standard CD from a collection of Mp3 songs with any audio CD burner, it first makes WAV files in the background before it burns.
But you still have exactly the same low quality of the original Mp3.

Most newer CD players can play Mp3s directly, so why not put the Mp3s on the CD as files. That way you can fit waay more.

A FLAC file is a lossless compressed file. The sound is exactly the same as the original WAV file where it was made from.
When you expand that FLAC file to WAV again, you have exactly the same WAV.
Window$ media player does not play FLACs.
Don't know why. Maybe because the codec is free.
Just use another player.

Not sure about the concert question.
You can break up a continuous CD/WAV into tracks with a cue splitter like "Medieval Cue Splitter", if you have or make the cue file (text file with cut points).

FLAC also has it's own free and simple converter. "FLAC frontend".

for converting from anything to anything else xrecode II (batch processing, not the hassle with audacity or wavelab or the like), for playing ANY music-file foobar2000, for videos VLC.

for making (encoding) mp3 use lame encoder and tell xrecode where to find the lame encoder and you are done.
