backup alternative to time machine for mac

Hey all,

I have a 2tb external I would like to use to back up a 2tb internal audio project drive on the mac pro in my studio. Time machine wont work because it needs extra "work space". Can anyone recommend a good free alternative? Automatic backups would be best but If I have to do it manually thats fine too.

Nothing better than SuperDuper. Time Machine is useless as far as I'm concerned. having all of the files scattered in unknown locations... I love backing up to smart image files, very quick and everything in one DMG file that I can open or restore if need be.

Not only that but you can boot directly from the backup if your system drive fails. That's something that Time Machine can't do.

Used the free version of Carbon Copy Cloner for years before I bought a license.

Saved my butt, it was money well spent.

Like everyone else has said - get Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. They are both excellent at making copies of your HD with no glitches or problems, simple as that. Just pay the $40 or whatever they cost. Money well spent
