Allen & Heath ZED R-16 & Cubase 5 drivers issue

Hello all!

my ZED's drivers started to crush. everything is working fast and flow and all of a sudden everything becomes "digital distorted" and I need to exit Cubase and lunch it again. of course I was making sure that I have the most up to date drivers for A&H official site before opening this thread.
my PC is pretty legit: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.80 GHz, 32GB DDR3 RAM, six months old, never been connected to the internet, clean, only a few softwere installed on it. Texas Instruments firewire chipset - I dont think he's the suspect.
I tried different Buffer speeds, from 250 up to 5200 or something like that.
so I guess its just poor drivers. great piece of gear but the sottwere if maybe not as stable as RME or other "long time in these business" cards.
will a RME: Hammerfall DSP 9632 will do the job? while being connected via ADAT would I still enjoy all of ZED's magic & flexibility?
is that what everyones talking about when referring to RME stability and reputation?

I would love if someone will shed some light upon this thing for me.
thanks for all the helpers!
