Pro-L or Barricade?

I've been demoing these plugins for a while and and can't really come to a decision on them. What are your experiences and thoughts with these? Is there a point in getting both?

Not really!
I think pro-l is way more precise and less "damaging" than its opponent.
Only precision limiter from uad can do a better job than pro L. Pro L is a good bang for the buck.
Stick to one! Imho

Neither is nice. I've seen more transparent working units for free.

such as?

I only have a few weeks demo experience with Pro -L, and it does a good job, in the 'dynamic' setting for me.. if there are better plugins for free (osx), I am interested.

Such as Vladg Limiter #6, but it is much more complicated than just easy brickwall limeters. Limiter #6 is a long procesing line, which includes slow RMS compressor, multiband/MS/ dual mono limiter, HF limiter, multiband/MS/dual mono oversampled clipping limiter, and ISP limiter for output. And it works like a charm.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I think I'm leaning towards getting Pro-L since it gives the most control in a user friendly manner. I like how the saturation sounds in Barricade, but I guess I can also use saturation from something like Satson.

Well, if you're not using high SRs, Barricade aliases like hell in audible range. AFAIK, Pro-L is good enough.

Interesting, this is the first time I've read of a problem with Barricade and aliasing.

I voted Pro-L. But it depends on how much limiting your doing of course. If it's just slight Barricade is good. But even then when I did my tests a while I ago I felt something slight was lost in Barricade.

But I tried a blind test and didn't do very well so could just be the price and GUI affecting my judgement.

I didn't notice any aliasing, but can anyone else confirm this?

Pure sine @ 1 kHz, free SPAN analyzer, Barricade in limiting - check it yourself.

Are you sure you aren't mixing aliasing up with saturation?

I installed Limiter 6 here, osx 10.6.8. very buggy. even after a re-install. it was the latest version, a few weeks ago.

...then try 2 sine waves and see what happens...
you might find that limiter6 has significantly more IMD than Barricade...
or even better try a square or saw wave and see what you end up with...
limiter6 is the exact opposite of transparent...

man, i'm not mixing up aliasing with saturation, and my Limiter #6 works like charm in OSX 10.6.8., you should try to install 1.0.0 instead of 1.0.1 version, but they both works fine in 64-bit Reaper, but as i discovered, version 1.0.1. behaves really bad in Reaper x86.

I'm not trying to say that Barricade is bad and something other is fine - this is monkey work, i'm just saying IMHO, based on what i hear and see on spectrum analyzer.

And i'm not talking to stinkyfingers, not even reading his posts. I'm not talking to this kind of people.

There is so much bullsh1t on this forum. Too many ''IKnowEverything'' people...and what's the most funny part, those guys haven't even managed to get on the pro level. Those who says Barricade sucks should check their ears or finally admit to themselves that they are in the wrong business. And why people prefer Pro-L over Barricade is simply because of the GUI and the recent hype on GS, since USA ''engineers'' ignored and never heard of FabFilter till two months ago until Pensado used one of the FabFilters plug-in's in his video. Pro-L is also great limiter, but Barricade is on the same level, so...
