I am using the Sansamp PSA-1 plugin quite often on bass, but it's Pro Tools-only.

If you're a UAD guy you can achieve this with the Fatso plug set to Tranny.

Try the Tse BOD vst. Its the best bass sim I've ever used. The plugin is an Ampeg bass driver clone.

I've also heard MaxxBass from waves adds harmonics that really help the bass stand out on speakers that don't have much bass

The tranny setting enhances bass? Wow I've gotta try that. I was gonna suggest the Moog distortion.

+1 for the decapitator from soundtoys..loved it when I used it but it's expensive which is why I don't own it.. Try overdriving the compressors you own, parallel compression and also MaxxBass by Waves/a Pultec EQ. I'd give the g-sonique xbass 4000 a try if I were you..

The Fatso's Tranny feature does some low-end distortion.

My favorite thing for that is melda multisaturator. Multiband so u can snag any existing higher harmonics easily and enhance while not making mess in lower regions.

It helps to coax the signal the way you want it to be on the way in. I know this isn't exactly what software's supposed to do, it's more a hardware thing. A lot of times I find the method of applying a bit here, a bit there working better than all the work done in one fell swoop.

Try FabFilter Saturn. It's multi-band, so you can manipulate the low end on the bass and leave the rest alone

Checked it out, got Decimort cheaper at AudioDeluxe. But its not much.
So either way, it's a good deal.

I think the devil-loc is a emulation of Shure Level-Loc and decapitator is emulating the Ampex, EMI, Neve, Triode, Pentode.
