SSD XP boot drive upgrade - expectation vs reality?

I added a 64GB Transcend SSD to my XP rig and copied the C drive image to it so I can boot off it. I was expecting a reasonable improvement in startup time.

It's certainly snappier around the traps in everyday use, but I don't think I gained anything in startup speed. XP seems to spend a lot of time on startup fiddling around with network connections and loading 'personal settings' whatever the hell they are. I would have expected a noticeable improvement, and maybe it's a few seconds quicker but not noticeable. Also it still takes ages to shut down.

Does anyone else still run XP with an SSD? Does Windows 7 work any better booting off an SSD?

I have XP, Win 7, and Win 8 machines, and all of the boot drives are SSD. Win 8 is definitely the best, as far as the bootup time goes. XP is slow, no matter what, because it takes time to configure startup/shut down processes. Fast disk access of SSD doesn't help much. But applications loads definitely faster. Win 7 is somewhere in the middle.
