Upgrade from 003+?

Hey guys, looking for some advice on some upgrades to replace my 003+. I only need a 2 channel converter and i'd be using it with my great river mp2nv. I'm selling my 003+ for 700 bucks, so that's about my entire budget. I Might be able to add an extra 100 bucks if needed. Is there anything in that price range i could get that would be an upgrade? Thanks appreciate it!

What sequencing software are you planning to use? Do you want an interface with lots of features or just a stripped down A/D D/A to use?

Thanks for the replies, i use pro tools 10, and id be fine with just a stripped down AD/DA converter.

Id definately go with the rosetta 200 if i could find one around 700-800 dollars but i don't think they go for that low.
maybe mbox 3?

I think your biggest challenge will be getting $700 for your 003+

Also keep in mind that a Rosetta 200 will require a monitor controller.

Duet 2 depending on how you'll use your outs, $400-450 used.

I found one for $900 about a month ago. I can't remember where...

I'll let you know if I ever spot anything!

An Mbox won't be an improvement over the 003. You need to look at higher end stand alone A/D and D/A converters.

Not at all, the Duet's pres are bypassable for line input in the Maestro setup.

So the duet 2 is out of the question unless i buy a mac. Any other suggestions for a price range of 700-800? I just need a good quality converter that will do my great river justice. If the price range isn't realistic just let me know.

Yes the focusrite forte actually does look pretty good.. anyone have thoughts on that compared to the duet 2? are the converters pretty much the same?

Would the RME ADI-2 be an upgrade?

The new Mbox 3 is a GIGANTIC improvement over the 003.

In fact I think it sounds better than the Duet 2, having actually compared them side by side. You would not be dissapointed if you went with that.

RME Babyface? Same deal as a Duet 2, with better software.

This will be my next purchase. I'm just going to get a really nice mic and run it straight into one of these and call it a day.

Actually mbox 3 was one of my original choices, until someone told me it would be a downgrade (read above) but Il rent one and check it out. What's everyone's thoughts on mbox 3 or babyface?

Babyface for sure. Then when you want/need to track a drum set or something bigger, add an Aurora or a Rosetta 800 to the ADAT input and some nice pres, and you have a killer 10 channel rig. In the meantime, you have solid drivers, a very portable interface, nice pres should you ever want them, and great converters. RME's conversion is super solid. Do it!

Did you compare just the converters?
How do the mic pre's compare between the MBOX 3 and Duet 2?

Actually, I said it wouldn't be an improvement. That's not the same as saying it's a downgrade.

But also, I could be wrong. I have not used one. I would defer to those who have.

Mbox 3 PRO would be an improvement, not same as the regular Mbox 3.

Sorry that's what I meant, not an improvement.

Does the regular mbox have a different converter than the mbox pro? Cause I won't even be using the built in preamps anyway and only need 2 line ins.

Yes, and more importantly you can bypass the preamps for a direct line in on all 8 analog inputs. It's the only Mbox 3 unit that you can do that.
