Quick query, can't really find a definitive answer online.

I have a Saffire PRO 40 and Saffire LE. is it possible to connect these two together to get extra inputs using Spdif?

You should be able to do this.
I don't own that unit but it seems you can route "output 1-2" to the SPDIF out via the SaffireControl LE software.

Depending on the software you use it might be easier to daisy-chain them with Firewire.
