Multing and audio spikes/bursts

I'm working in Cubase 6. I multed some tracks to apply different eq settings at various parts of the song. However, at the start of each multed clip, there is a volume spike in the audio until all the plug-ins catch up or whatever to the audio. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? I tried turning off plug-ins and cross fades, but it didn't work.

Oh yeah, I did have snap to zero crossing selected also.
