yup, a couple of dumb questions about dual cores and L2 cache

i apologize for the dumb questions but i've been out of the loop for a while.

I currently have a single core P4 3.2

Will a 3.2 dual core Pent D give me twice the plugin instances than i'd have with my current single core 3.2?

also, can i put a 2MB L2 cache CPU in a mobo that only supports 1MB L2 ?

thanks for any help.
