Waves Re EQ vs. URS EQ's

Waves Ren EQ is my main EQ for mixing.

How does it compare to the URS plug-in EQs?

I guess the URS-plugs are better, but are the differences significant?

(Also, if anyone has both Waves and URS plugs and some spare time, it would be great if you could post some samples where you boost or cut the same the frequencies. If it's not too much hassle... )

I´m using both. I reach more often to the urs. But i think the REQ is a good usable EQ, the lo and hi cuts are very flexible

Why don´t you download the demos and try em at your studio?

I guess this is the same neverending test-series.....

i run both, urs & waves & waves ssl & uad Eq´s, they all have they spaces in a mixing session, it always depends on what kinda material they sounds best.

just get them all and you safe for all time!

I prefer the URS EQ's to Waves. They just have a certain character to them that lends itself well to music. Waves just doesn't have that "WOW" factor for me.

i think this is true statement. however, the Waves Ren is good for a sharp dip on a problem frequency and uses like that. definitely more surgical. 9 out of 10 times i reach for a broader eq with character. uad and urs are my "go to" plugs for that

Why don't you just download the demo's and play with them yourself?

I'm with Azwun.

If I'm going after iterative, doubling problem frequencies (say, a snare ring) I do the Ren EQ thing.

If the singer needs to gain 20 pounds, I do the URS Neve thing.

I have to say, I wasn't really feeling any shelves in digital EQ until I tried the URS Neve. The sweetness you can bring to brass percussion with that plug is quite satisfying. Same deal with the low-end. Also, very sensible knees for both lo and hi cuts.

Thanks, guys!

I appreciate it.

I will certainly download the demos. Should've thought about that. :-)

Anyway, it's nice to hear people's opinions.

i'm growing to love urs MixEq and i always use the urs A eq(550)
other than that i use Waves Ren for some things, waves Q series for some, PSP neon (which i loved on vox until using mixEQ today on vox)...and Eqium... those are just about all the Eq's i use in my nuendo system...
haven't touched hydratone in months

I love the Sonalksis stuff, esp. the SV-517 EQ and the SV-315 Compressor. I can't say enough good things about them.

URS EQs are also amazing, but if I could just use one, it would be the Sonalksis.

The Waves EQ from the SSL bundle (the G-Equalizer) is also awesome, IMO. However there is a learning curve; it took me awhile to realize how I could use it in the way that I wanted.

I prefer the URS both for sound and interface reasons. I don't like the interface on the Waves, plus an EQ-graph is a no-go for me.
