That's very nice, considered the 27" monitor, it's a great machine. BUT when will we get a 4-core MacBook Pro?

There is no way to get a UAD2 on there or I'd seriously be considering one right about now... Then again, maybe native is the "safer" choice with the rate chips are speeding up.

Those benchmarks mean nothing for audio the i7 (3500 Xeon) based MAC PRO is faster then both but much more powerful then the i5 based system.

And the Harpertown (3400) is still faster than the Nehalem (3500).

it isn't!

There are plenty of proper audio related benchmarks (I have a load at work) that will show this.

Sorry, maybe for general audio applications they are not, but specifically for high CPU loads in Logic, the Harpertowns are currently the best.

That is a Logic issue not to do with the potential for the CPUs

Sure you do

What that test really proved, is that the new 27inch(quad)i7 is more than adequate for prime-time DAW work..

very adequate. But there are some things mac pro's still dominate in. Also, next spring when 12 core gulftowns come out, it will be a larger gap. I for one though just ordered the i7 iMacheh

The current Mac Pros are indeed a very bad deal right now compared to the iMacs.

The Mac Pro updates are a couple of months overdue when compared to their regular product cycle, so we will probably have an upgrade in First Quarter 2010

Apple knows that the difference in specs between the Mac Pros and the iMacs is not logical compared to the difference in price (the only REAL benefit of the mac pros is the expandability, connectivity, etc and slightly better processor architecture).

I have been waiting for the new mac pros for a year... Its finally time to say goodbye to my Old G5

All the big PC brands have a quad laptop, but I suspect that Apple's issue is the size it has to be, plus a 140 watt proc isn't very battery friendly.
