Improve already existing features like eg. automation, groups etc
Monophonic (or polyphonic!) pitch automation Arrange
More/better plug-ins
EXS improvements, better sampler integration
Bugfixes and stability improvements
Non-destructive audio editing: multitrack audio quantizing and elastic audio
Full track import / export with automation and plug-in data
Ability to bounce and replace regions in Arrange
Improved audio editing in general (update the Sample Editor, the Takes feature etc)
All of them would be welcomed if they come up with an even better way of doing things .....

I would also add Hardware delay compensation without the need of a 3rd party plug-in ..

I thought I could include only 10 reply options in the poll, but luckily, I was wrong, so I added a bunch more reply options than I mentioned in the first post.

You can vote on as many features as you wish.

The whole list looks good!

Some serious thought went into making this list I see -- hopefully all of the above gets implemented.

Oh, and also TRIM should be added in automation

The list is more or less based on (the first pages of) this thread:
Logic 8.1 - What Do You Want

Sure. I even forgot one of my own pet peeves: the ability to select automation across several ungrouped tracks and edit the levels with the mouse, so please consider Trim and multitrack mouse editing of automation as a part of Automation reply option in the poll... There should have been an "etc" in there.

Personally, I think some of those points should be sub-categorized (even if that might make a poll impossible). I mean, for me, if implemented properly, say, an improved Strip Silence would have to go hand in hand with editing of multiple drum takes and so on. And I also don't think that "Tube Saturation" or "Tape Simulation" deserve their own poll entries in a poll. After all, sure, everybody wants a nice tape/tube simulation - so it might easily be that these are "winning" the poll, whereas other, truly fundamental features would only score pretty badly.
Personally, I would leave all the plugin wishes completely out of any poll. You can easily add those to your arsenal whenever you want already, so there's absolutely no need for them to show up in a Logic update (others than as a nice additional gift). But you can't add better audio editing to Logic at all (using external editors really doesn't count because it's an entirely different workflow). So, at least IMO, in such a poll, the fundamental core functions of a program should be taken care of. Plugins certainly don't count for that at all.

Regards
Sascha

I won't open anything newer than L7.2.3 if not all of the following is changed again:

Allowing pro users to use Logic the pro way they are used to for a decade.
I want to decide (meaning: have a checkbox in prefs) whether it behaves the *new* or the *old* way.

Most important things:

>Switch off the bloody context menu.

>Bring back the original KeyCommands (and don't override 'em back by defaults on the next start).

>I want to switch off the funny one-window-mode. I'm not a macbook user - I have minimum two screens active (four when working with video) and

>I want a seperate window opened when doubleclicking a region - as always !!

>Bring back the alt-command-click-into-window-top-function to get rid of space wasting window borders.

>Bring back space for the window CONTENT instead of wasting it by sick rounded Toys'R'Us/FisherPrice window DESIGN.

>Stop creating environment objects automatically regardless of whether they are already created (in a professional startup environment).
I don't want them doubled just because I open up my send 1.

>In other words: Bring back 100% Logic 3,4,5,6 and 7 user interface compatibility !!

Thanks a bundle.

You can't believe HOW MUCH I second that!
And fwiw: Especially on a Macbook the one window paradigm works a lot worse than on larger screens. I do get along fine at home but on the road it's killing me.
Hence, another wish: Bring back the separated extended parameter box.

the ability to globally name files that get recorded (like I was able to do in Logic 7)...now I just end up with all my audio files named the same, regardless of song. (a real PITA). Why remove this feature on an 'upgrade'? Can't imagine what they were thinking.

Elastic Audio the Sampler and the Bugs are real important to a lot of us, I think.

But I hope Apple will not only include tools just to be there!

if I were working for Apple I woulf rather license Melodyne, something like Kontakt, Minimonsta and the PSP Plugins or Sonnox then designing something new that can not compete with this stuff.

EDITING

I so wish that Apple would make Logic edit audio and drums as well as Pro Tools, so that I could ditch PT LE forever...

64-bit support, it's embarrassing forward thinking Apple doesn't have any 64-bit software that would improve performance tremendously.

Only on a PC do you have a choice of 64-bit hosts!

Cheers,

- The ability to LOCK smpte start times of Movie files, regardless of tempo and time signature changes. Essential for scoring.

- control room monitoring and talkback functions

- customer support

- death to the 'purge buffers' bug.

- 9.1 within a year of 9.0

Better integration with hardware.
Allow mono outs.
Allow the use of converters simultaneously from different manufacturers not just Apogee.

I pretty much agree with most of what's been said, top of my list are...

Flexible audio & pitch (like Live)

Simpler and more flexible audio editing in arrange (like Pro Tools) - therefore getting rid of the need for the sample edit window altogether.

Better automation (proper group relative level behaviour etc - like Pro Tools)

More openess & communication from Apple (a developer blog?) on bug fixes/general progress (like google)

Some new plugs would be nice - a proper stereo pitch plug and tape saturation? How about a convolution based channel strip option (like liquid mix).

Funny how I've been getting along fine with Logic 8 until last week when
I had a rather painful experience doing midi drum parts. I had so many
issues just trying to loop record and merge parts on to a single 2 bar region.
I drag n drop EZ drummer files and add my own cymbal hits or fills and
I just could not get the new parts recorded on the existing regions without
having to copy/drag new parts into the region. What a headache I had afterward.

Anyway, without going a bug rant as we have enough of that in the 8.1 thread,
seeing all those features listed above enlightened me as to what the next version
of Logic could and should really have. I really gotta say moving on and using
PT 8 to get some other work done the other night went smooth. If Logic could
have the kind of region handling that PT does(region grouping for easier editing)
and similar smart tool functionality they'd win my heart back.

Are you aware that you can import key commands from your old Logic 7 preferences from the menu in the Key Commands window?

Quote:

This means that you (at least for now) have to hold the Alt key down when you double click on those regions

A Full Screen mode would be nice as well.

Does this happen even if you have disabled Automatic Management of Channel Strip Objects?

What exactly does region grouping do that selecting a bunch of regions in Logic doesn't do - except possibly the ability to create fades on multiple regions and edit automation levels - with the mouse - on multiple tracks?

Yes, please.... :-) There are a number of wishes that aren't included in the poll - including the one you mentioned (and wishes about better file handling in general), score wishes (since this is a gear/recording/audio forum), rearranging channel strips in the mixer and more. Maybe the list in the poll should have been longer.

Do you mean this....

...but across several tracks?

You can also use the Marquee tool to select the area you want to edit, so you're not limited to regions of course, or to manually adding automation 'nodes'.

if you move the track on arrange window ,the same position on mixer ...it's really stupid to "look-seek " for the track on mixer when you change the position on arrange window.

There's still the environment mixer. But I agree that it has become more of an issue with L8, because automatic track management is messing things up.
