Then their likely not to be your client unless you have hordes of outboard gear, a flashy studio, and pro tools.

You could say that, as a matter of principle, you are depriving yourself of access to some of the best software available.
Difficult to explain to clients..."yeah, I know you would like to use X plugin, I've heard that it is really cool but, as a matter, of principle I don't have it !".
The only client I have is me. So I don't have to take those things into consideration. Anyhow, I really hope Andy is doing well with his amazing plugin despite not forcing a dongle upon the custormers. I am aware there are very good plugins using iLok - and I suspect that when my GAS gets strong enough, I will not care and buy them anyhow

Regardless of how this wonderful plugin has been secured, it is an absolute essential in my projects no matter the style.. It's a no brainer go to compression tool and due to its flexibility and fantastic character, I cannot live without it. It's the best comp in the box I've ever used.
(Don't tell too many people about it... it's a secret weapon for sure!!!) Sorry Andy! ;-)

Hi Andy,

Wonderful compressor you have here.

Sorry for going OT (and if it's been mentioned earlier) but... Do you have any plans to give your Cytomic love to any other classic compressors?

I personally would love to hear your take on a 2254 or 33609.

Good luck and best wishes to your continued success!

R.

just purchased this after extensive demoing against the Waves SSL and the Logic comp (which can actually do quite good job of the grabby ssl thing) and the glue won hands down... it makes the waves sound a bit ragged in the high end whilst the logic comp just sounds boring in comparison. Was considering buying a hardware ssl comp but this has persuaded me otherwise - it does the ssl sound very well and has what I find almost all plugs to lack - an identifiable character. Great job Andy! thumbsup

I would really want to know how to compress that way, I own Digidesign Fairchild compressor and you can work unlinked but I always end up linking the compressor

i use The Glue almost on each track.
but sometimes i need PUNCHY sound and waves api 2500 is the solution.
i check a comparison between waves api2500 and real hardware - 4/5 for waves.
not bad but Andy can do it better!

Andy, may be next plugin will be API 2500 or DBX 160 emulation?

I would consider the SSL sound more punchy than API. I haven't found anything that offers more punch for compression than The Glue.

i dunno
i can't get those punchy overcompressed sound from The Glue.
on 30 ms attack it not so "clicky" as SSL (Waves or UAD emulation).

Just bought the Glue and found x4 oversampling is better sounding.
x8 and x16 add some plastic artifacts.

Miam, that's intriguing!

Really, what are you planning next Andy?
I know it'd take you a looot of time to make another exact and good emulation, but I'm sure it'll pay off after the sucess of the glue!

Love this plugin. Just finished a two day mixing session and used it extensively on all the buss groups. Great on drums. ALL compressors should have a mix knob!

The difference you hear is down to less aliasing and a more accurate transient response in the circuit modelling due to the oversampling. I actually prefer the smoother sound of hi-hats and other high frequency content when processed oversampled, but I can let everyone choose for themselves. Perhaps people may have become accustomed to the harsher and crunchier sound of aliasing on their high frequencies and don't like it when it is cleaned up?

I screwed up when bouncing these files down, so I've removed them. I'll post them again in a sec.

Listening test:

I've attached two files, one is done at x4 the other at x16, both have exactly the same settings on exactly the same audio. I have also added the difference between the two files. We have loads of excellent ears on this thread, so please let us know which of the two you prefer: A, or B? Also please give a quick one line description of why you prefer one over the other, any vague reasons are just fine - this is about your perceptions not science.

Andy this may be a stupid question (but that alone has never stopped me form asking questions before...) but would you please explain how you made the "difference" clip and what exactly it represents?

cheers

The difference sample = A - B. This is done by A + (inverted B). This is the what is different between the two signals based on a time domain subtraction per sample. This is possible because the oversampling in The Glue is linear phase and has a whole integer number of samples latency, which is automatically corrected for by good hosts.
