Really looking forward to this release!

I hear they'll be expensive.

Hope you have about 800 Billion lying around.

this could be a nice new plug in ...

do you plan to make it vst3?
(would be great for easy sidechaining in cubase5!)

cheers!

it support sidechain as a plus stereo input channel.
i guess that needs almost a complete rewrite to make it vsti3.

The Glue has 4 inputs, two stereo pairs, so there is nothing to prevent Cubase, or any other host, from routing audio to the second stereo pair for the external sidechain signal. If Cubase doesn't support this please contact Yamaha / Steinberg for a feature request, this is basic audio routing stuff.

So your plug in is not going to be vst3?
I really wonder if anyone will support vst3 in the near future ...

by the way:
i know about the workaround in cubase - but it's a pain to set up:
Digital Music Mag - Sound & Stuff: Sidechaining in Cubase SX
the new vst3 standard was suppost to make it more easy!

cheers!

there is another way, you make a quadro channel, make 2 stereo subchannels. few clicks. much less than to suit the specifications of vst3 sdk, it has been criticised quite heavily at kvr by developers.

Pro Tools and Live and Reaper and Logic and Plogue and ... all handle 4 inputs declared as two stereo pairs just fine. If your host of choice is limited with it's signal routing I would suggest sending the author of the host a feature request and perhaps they will fix it. I am unaware of any technical holdup as to why any host developer couldn't support this right now, today, for all versions of vst plugins.

Using a quad bus for sidechain in cubase works just fine. Before more or less abandoning cubase for Live, I did it quite a lot with the sonalksis plugs.

Also, sidechaining in VST3 is in the wrong direction i m h o. You send audio to the sidechain input, just as if it was a separate stereo input. If you implement separate sidechain support, i m h o, it would be much simpler to select what audio source to "listen to" from the plugin (like in Live for instance). Keeps the number of needed sends/busses down. (Especially since cubase is severely limited when it comes to flexibly routing one channel to many)

What Andy is trying to say.

But being stunningly poltically correct about it is.

VST3 = clusterf*ck.

Theres no reason for VST to not support this functionality in 2.4 or 2.3 as it stands.

But Steinberg in their infinite 'wisdom' have decided to do it differently.

There are hardly any developers willing to undertake VST3 devving.

Every other host on the planet can handle side chaining and has been able to for many years. Its wrong to have to change a codebase in order to make a specific functionality work for just one host.

The borg need to get their act together in a nutshell.

As an aside.

Hi Andy!

Good to see the audio doing the rounds

It's actually worse than all that.

I got Yvan Grabit to add the kVstPinIsSideChain flag to the pin properties in the vstsdk v2.0 in 1999. I also pushed them to allow midi to be sent to an effect plugin, which they also added, because I used that for doing real time slicing of incoming audio for VReOrderII and VFragment and VFilter.

Steinberg have since decided to remove the side chain pin flag for whatever reason. Perhaps so they could add it back again and, along with some marketing hype, pretend it was something new? It's not even needed since just having two stereo pairs is enough.

I'm definitely eager to try this. I thought about getting the Waves SSL bundle, but I pretty much just wanted it for the G Buss Compressor. I'd much rather shell out $99 for this as long as it sounds pretty close to that "glue" from the SSL's.

That said, I like Waves sound for their plugs, but just like everyone here, I hate their pricing and WUP.

Hopefully this'll be out soon !!!

Just finishing it up now, check the screenshot at the start of the thread, that's the final thing now with motion blur on the needle and glowing red led, A/B top bar and preset load / save / copy / paste / rename.

Expect the paid for beta test program to open before next Friday. Basically it will be for sale, but I'm officially calling it a beta to keep peoples bug expectations in line and iron out any problems of the web page / user account system before the official launch.

I could say it costs $299 and you can buy it for $99 if that makes you feel better

But seriously since it's already reasonably priced I fell it's better just to have a price and stick with it. The time for discounts is when it has been out for a while and becomes part of a pack.

The license will be that you can use it for one composition at a time in one studio. You can install it on as many machines, mac or pc as you want and even run multiple copies on multiple machines as long as they are being used at the same time for a single composition.

I see the good will involved as being worth the losses incurred with such a system. I am not using challenge / response to lock it to a single machine, or a dongle to restrict your usage, I am trusting that people will do the right thing. After all, if someone really dosen't want to do the right thing they can use a cracked version anyway.
