Laptops with HDMI - ASIO?

Hi!

My question is directed to anyone who has one of those new Laptops which have an HDMI output.
Is it possible to use the audioport of the HDMI interface directly in a DAW like cubase?
The HDMI standard says that up to 8 channels of digital, uncompressed (no dolby dts) audio can be transferred, so my thought was that the HDMI port can be used as a soundcard with 8 digital outs!

So if ithis works in an audio-application (with the MME drivers or bestter ASIO4ALL ASIO4ALL - Universeller ASIO- Treiber), I could do mixes in 7.1 surround with an adequate digital do analog converter.

Can anyone proof my thoughts?

Thanks, Christoph

My Dell Monitor has one built in (Dell 2709W)!
heh

Thats why it would be an even better idea - and a very cost effective one.

For sure the quality won't be stunning, but it would only be a temporary solution anyhow.

Anyone can test this?

Greets, Christoph
