Did they fix the issue where AU and VST won't authorize on an iLok? I find its kind of a PITA to do disk auth really.

I authorized my Ozone 4 to iLok successfully here (10.4.11/PPC)

Bob Ohlsson has mentioned elsewhere that you often don't need to manipulate more than 2 bands, even if 4 or 5 are available.

I've found the multiband imager useful in restoration of analog stereo recordings. A slight extra spread on the "air" band can open up a dull recording without spotlighting high frequencies too dirty to boost. And I've found some classical music recorded too narrowly benefits from a slight widening in the midband - just one notch can really help a cramped original.

If Alan Blumlein was shot down during WWII, does he even have a grave?

Thank-you for those usage scenarios for the stereo imager. I would think, with
the new Mid/Side processing in Ozone 4, that the necessity of this component
may be lessened, perhaps obviated.

I have a colleague, who is a mastering engineer. He said he felt uncomfortable
changing the stereo imaging unless there were phase issues that were
detrimental to the material. I respect that too. It would seem the mixing
engineer placed things in the sound field intentionally.

But with older material (particularly early stereo recordings), there may
be legit usages.

And as far as where Mr. Blumlein was laid to rest .. i don't know .. I only know
he was a genuis of his time.

I'm still stunned by the limiter in Intelligent II mode. Been messing around with it for a couple of days now, it sounds really, really good. Great reaction to transients. The dither section is very useful as well.

The harmonic exciter is useful as band. Especially the second fader, warmed up some old folk recordings quite a lot.

I like PSP StereoEnhancer more than the stereo tool in this one though. PSP's plug has not just a width but also a "depth" slider, which is in another league.

4.03 Update

Izotope just released the .03 update which addresses the poor intelligibility of the interface fonts by adding a Brightness control. It also improves CPU efficiency of the Reverb.

There is no stereo placement in the air frequencies, just air. Boosting the volume in those frequencies on certain recordings is just plain ugly. Don't take my word for it, don't take his. Try it yourself. One click wider in the stratosphere may open up a cramped recording quite nicely.

Best,

Hello everyone
Does anybody know if there is a way to stop the preset menu from showing up every time you click the plugin to tweak something?
I find this very annoying but cant find a preference to stop it from doing it

Help is appreciated

As annoying as it is, I think they did it on purpose to make everybody see the presets. I think in the preset menu somewhere uncheck the box "show at startup".

Does anyone know if the Ozone 4 upgrade is still applicable if you buy Ozone 3 today? Version 4 doesn't seem to be in many online stores, but prices on version 3 are good all over.

Yes, the upgrade is still free. However it's not automatic, you'll need to contact iZotope support.

Hmmm, that is not how it behaves here. Once I have started the plug-in and chosen any particular preset to start from I then click the 'Preset' button (show/hide) and never see them again until another click. I also do have the 'Show At Start Up' unclicked if you are taliking about opening/closing the window in an application HTH

So - what's the take on this after it's been out a while? Worth the upgrade?

I am very happy I upgraded. The new features and interface enhancements make it much better. I have been using it as a channel strip for individual tracks with good results as well as for it's intended use as a mastering plugin. Izotope Ozone and Trash are key tools for me.

Yes. Just the new limiter algorithm is worth the upgrade IMO. It's among the best.
