Advice on mobile setup w/ new low end macbook

I'm considering the new low end macbook for a cheap location setup with a fireface 800 but haven't had much experience with laptop recording. I would be looking to record 16 to 20 tracks at once at 44.1 on Nuendo reliably without pushing things to the limit.

I assume I should record to an external firewire drive, can this be daisy chained either before or after the fireface 800? (The Macbook has only one firewire 400 port)

My plan is to pick up a Mackie 800R and use that in tandem with the fireface pres and a few higher end pres from my studio.

Does this seem realistic or should I go ahead and spend the extra grand on a Macbook Pro? (Things are pretty tight for me right now)

Anything else to look out for? I am familiar with the issue dealing with the Lucent firewire chip and it's solution involving the repeater cable, at least I'm counting on that being the solution.

Any help would be appreciated,

SM

I have read people doing that with computers much less powerful than a new Macbook. Even the external drive, first try to use the internal one, then you can always buy the external one. Daisy-chaining (?) should help problematic Firewire chipsets...
