? bout optimizing

A few years back when gig's were expensive I had two harddrives both 1 gigs
and in order to have a smooth working system I had to optimize all the time.
Nowadays I have one 500 gig firewire for backup and one 160 for day to day work
but recently I've noticed a performance drop, geeting loads more Cpu wasn't able to process etc. Am running Logic and 002 on a G5 so obviously there's a limit to how many plugins and tracks I can use but it seems to have gotten worse. Might this have something do to with fragmenting, have used around 70gig on the drive?

G5's firewire hardware is not very good
If you want to run separate drives at full pelt, try the LaCie drives which come with the PCI card, direct injection so to speak
Otherwise like you say, could be fragmentation
Or the song got a bug

I just ordered one of these. One of the guys I used to share a studio with has a similar job that adds two internal SATA drives to a G5 and claims it works great. Disk utility will configure multiple drives as a RAID. Should be the ticket.
