Firewire - need help

I have a very strange firewire problem :

When I hook up my firewire drive mac OS9 doesn`t recognize it, no matter what I do.

When I chain my firewire CD-R on the same port after the drive, both the CD-R and the HD gets recognized.

Does anybody has an idea what this is all about ????

thanks a lot

Ooh, this sounds a weird one.

Can you let us know the Brand of the drive?

What version of the Apple Firewire extensions are you running? (apple fire enabler, and apple firewire support)

Have you tried swapping cables?

Hi Al,

thanks for your reply.

The thing got even stranger :
I removed the CD-R today as I needed it at my laptop and the firewire drive got still recognized by the Mac !?!

It seems like the mac needed the CD-R to recognize the HD.

I have no explanation for this, as I checked all cables and connections for hours before I hooked up the CD-R.

Anyway, I have a G4/800, OS9.2.2
Firewire HD : IBM Deskstart 7200 Rpm, 80GB
