Motu 848 - Can it replace my physical patchbay
I am thinking of updating from an Apollo 8 Quad blackface to a Motu 848. There is much talk online about the patchbay in the new Cue Mix Pro. I currently use a 48 point TRS patchbay to run outboard gear and connect preamps - it is adequate for my needs (4 channel pre, 2 compresosrs and 2 EQ's).
I have a feeling that the the 848 with Cue Mix Pro can actually act as a patchbay and may allow me to ditch the outboard physical patchbay. It sort of sounds like that is so - but every online inquiry I make about this just leads me to links that extoll the virtues of Cue Mix Pro or tell me how it works, but do not address my specific question at all.
So......if I install an 848 does that mean I can route all my outboard gear through the 848 and use Cue Mix Pro to patch between them, and create different setups depending on need?? i.e. completely ditch the physical outboard patch bay ?? but still have flexible routing of peripherals ??
Would really appreciate knowing this before I pull the trigger on an 848.
