Trying to find a sample manager
I'm trying to find a sample librarian that can make a proper effort to relink (ie relocate) samples that have been moved from their original position, *especially* ones that are used in playlists. By proper effort I mean batch identifying files that have been moved and then batch relinking by searching a folder, including subfolders.
Here's what I know (updating as I figure it out):
No: does not offer batch relinking of playlisted files:
AudioFinder. No, all playlists will lose their file paths after relinking (unless thats been fixed)
Soundly - It claims to (by monitoring locations), but once a playlist file comes up as "file not found", it seems there's no step to relink it. Seems like more of a drive scanner more than a repairable database.
Resonic - no playlists
Library Monkey
Swinsian
Sonicwire Mutant
Reaper's Media Explorer
Nuendo's Media Bay? Seems like moved files will be lost from favourites (playlists) after a rescan?
Kinda? But no?
Basehead Ultra - v6 tries to remap or relink files used in "collections" (playlists), but demo'ing today it crashed every time i pointed it to the new file location.
SoundMiner Plus - Kinda. Moved files can be relinked (via the database) and the playlists & spotting folders will update. It seizes up with a loud error warning if you click on a file that cannot be found. If a file cannot be relinked (eg if its name is changed outside of Soundminer) then it'll be lost from the playlist with no recourse, and you'll have to blindly discover and delete each such entry manually.
SoundQ - I can get it to relink a few dozen files at a time at least (more will crash it). If you change a filename there's no relinking it, but it also doesn't let you rename files from within the app. But it's much more polite & helpful than Soundminer about reporting playlists that have missing files, giving you a clear overview of the files that cannot be found, without disruptive pop up errors.
Yes: does offer batch relinking of playlisted files:
Ableton's Library - but it's not equipped to be a sample manager for post.
