vst performance on a macbook

Hey all.

I am running Cubase 4 on a MacBook (2G ram, 2Ghz intel core2 duo, 160gb HD), interfaced by a MOTU 828mkII

I am having trouble with VST performance in Cubase. The ASIO meter is pegging pretty hard on a few of my projects...when I'm running maybe 2 virtual instruments, and maybe 8-10 comps/eqs/whatevers. I had better performance with Sonar XL on a PC that was FAR inferior to my Mac.

My question...what can I do to improve the performance? My buffers are already affording me 5ms of latency...and I wouldn't want to give up anymore than that. What to do?
