Exporting PT playlist to Logic-- a simple task?

hey all

just wondering how easy it is to export a PT session to logic?

my band is thinking of recording basic tracks at a proper studio on pro tools, to a click. then we would export tracks to a file that would open in logic exactly the same.

I use logic at home and would like to do guitar layering and vocals there, to save a bit of money.

I'm sure this is done all the time but I've never done it before. I'm wondering what to watch out for, pros and cons, etc.

thanks

Make sure the "proper" studio has digitranslator.
They can then export you an OMF, and you can import that into Logic.
IMO, any studio that puts themsleves forward as beign Pro, shoudl have digitranslator.

or make stems..

1. Name ALL your tracks if not done so already
2. Zoom out so you can see the entire session
3. Enable the 'all' group
4. Press 'enter' or locate your cursor 1 bar before any audio
5. 'shift+click' at the end of the session (or try 'alt+shift+enter')
6. Press 'alt+shift+3'
7. Press 'apple+shift+k' and choose your export options and location (include the bpm in the title of the stems folder)

Make sure to save the protools session separately too.

I've done this a bunch both ways... L8 to Protools and vice-versa. I have had some bounced files get a little tweezed from time to time. Easy to fix if you can re-import that damaged track one at a time.

good luck

Nothing simpler in Pro Tools: highlight all the tracks from bar 1 to the end of the song, select the"consolidate" function in the menu and new individual continuous files will be created all starting from Bar one, ready to import into Logic (or any other DAW). Just drag the new created continuous files (easy to spot either by creation date and/or length) and drag them into a new folder as these ar all you need.
This is esier & safer than using OMF export that may not be 100% reliable.

thumbsup

I agree emphatically. OMF is a joke -- do not rely on it at all. It has messed me up plenty.
