Looking for an NYC-based Modular Synth Mentor!

Hey,
Any modular pros in and around NYC available to show me some tips and tricks on my portable Doepfer rig? I'd be glad to pay for a few quality lessons to help free me from a terribly limited skillset prison. Please PM me if you're available!
Fondly,
Jim

look at local art schools, maybe they do courses.
I was fortunate to take some lessons from Rob Hordijk, and Michael Fahres, who both have an open, and very different mind.

next best thing is books, and a Oscilloscope
(do a search there was a thread on books)
what got me started was a little book (in german)
there are others in english
SchneidersBuero

and scouer the interwebs for information.
each module is part of an equasion, understanding the modules is a step towards a result.
I'd recommend a modular for a synth noob, for this reason alone.

doepfer have very extensive manuals online.
youtube is also great.

did you work out the A-160 A-161 random arp patch yet?

thanks, I have the feeling though I have a lot to learn still myself, before teaching. heh there will be some workgroups planned here this summer if the planning goes ok.

check the doepfer manuals, they're really good.
and also

put in your modules, make screenshot, print, and you can use them as patch sheets

What modules do you have?
There are a few simple principles to getting basic sounds, beyond that it's quite difficult to damage anything so I've always just stuck cables in and out of modules and listened to the effect.

An oscilloscope always seems to get mentioned, but I more or less taught myself analogue synthesis and modular synthesis and have never once looked at an oscilloscope.
Of course it's essential if you want to look at what's going on, but I find the ears more rewarding. Both eyes and ears have merit, but I just prefer the non oscilloscope route as I don't want to buy one.
There are books at Amazon on synthesis and modular synthesis, plus a few courses on YouTube.
