Millennia NSEQ 2 w Forssell mod vs NSEQ 4?

Hi!

What´s the difference between Millenia NSEQ 2 with Forssell mod and Millennia NSEQ 4?

Anyone got some experience with these and can give some thoughts?

Thanks,
/C

The Forssell has his op amps in it. Not sure what the 4 uses and I doubt it sounds the same.

The FF is great,
Who knows the 4 could be close to the FF mod, anyone?

Really?

Somehow I doubt that Millennia will give a good rundown on the difference in sound between the 2 units in regards to a mastering context. At least probably not an unbiased one.

Well, nothing is totally "unbiased" but a credible maker will tell you the truth as they see it. Millennia is credible.

I talked to Millennia back when the 4 came out. It was years ago, so I don't remember the details, but it was an unhelpful conversation. From memory the general attitude was, why would you want the ff version when we have the 4. I eventually got a version 4 and really like it, but would still like to hear a comparison between the two.

I have got NSEQ 4.I buy it with some help from Chris(audiokid) moderator from Recording org.
I am so happy that the words are not enough.
That box is the best from the big guns.It has clear and open and simply beautiful high end.
They have to change the name from NSEQ4 to ''Sound clariphonic''
The lows are not bomb but they are so addictive that can easy overdoing.
I have Dangerous BAX EQ so cool box,I did have Charter Oak PEQ1 and all UAD plugins but NSEQ4 is like Chris(Recording org.) said ''secret weapon''
BAX EQ sound hi-fi but NSEQ4 still hold on the mid and not sound hollow there.
I can speak all day long for that magic box-THE NSEQ4.
That box is punchy in all bands, not soft at all.
Try this:
balance the mix, then on the mix buss insert NSEQ 4 set the lows to bell or shelf on 56 hz (2-4 db)
high mid 5Khz +(2-3 db)Q 0.6
and bell or shelf at 10 Khz +(2-3db)
if need some 500 hz + 1 db
And you are done.

i asked Fred Forssell if the nseq 4 is like the nseq2ff and he answered:

"Regarding the NSEQx products I had nothing to do with the NSEQ-4 and I do
not know what it has in it nor how it sounds. I have had nothing to do
with that company since 1999. I do know that a number of my customers
that purchased NSEQ-2 modification boards had purchased NSEQ-4 prior to
buying the NSEQ-2 modification board. I can only assume that they were
not happy with the NSEQ-4s sound."

so maybe millennia tried to copy the ff-mod?
or nseq4 is just a nseq2 without the valve option: that's it?
or ...

i donno!
i wish i could have both side by side.
i would trust MY ears and MY needs ;-)

One large difference between the MM NSEQ-2 and NSEQ-4 is the NSEQ-2 has MM's twin topology (tube or solid state) and the NSEQ-4 doesn't (solid state only).

hmmm.. I'm also interested to understand how close are NSEQ-2 FF vs NSEQ-4, as I'm trying to find my MAIN EQ for 2-bus processing.
I'm between IBIS (about 3200€), and NSEQ-2 FF (I know a guy that will sell it for 2900€)

what do you think?

Since to be a good deal, just the ff board was almost $1000 years ago, the NSEQ-2 FF is a great sounding EQ, that can be applied on any style of music good luck.

which option do you think will be better? IBIS or Millennia?
and considering the prices?
any other EQ that I missed for this purpose?

It's hard to say depends what's in your chain since both are real nice EQ's that could cover all, but the IBIS is more surgical but the deepness and bands on the Millennia NSEQ-2 FF are great as well.

Today the dream and drooling over an EQ unit became a reality for me. I just purchased a NSEQ 2 with the Forssell mod. I used it on the mix bus tonight on a folksy track with lots of voices, acoustic guitar, bass, toms, drums, some synth and electric guitar. I love what it does to the low and high end frequencies a lot. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase. No post purchase dissonance here. I get the feeling it will be in the arsenal for a very long time along with the Manley MP and Hammer EQ2. The NSEQ looks very beautiful in the rack with its lights.
