Considering most folks here use a mastering console I would think that talking about an individual unit is rather meaningful. The mere flick of a switch rendering all consideration of other gear in the rack rather meaningless.

I too have noticed a sonic difference between v6 and v7 MEA-2 compared A/B.
V7 was "cleaner", V6 had more "mojo", if that's the right way to describe Maselec kit .... or you could say it was a bit "gritty" by comparison.

Warning,shameless plug coming:

My MLA3 sounded great to me though and although I questioned the need for it and almost sold it 2 years ago, I kept it in the end. Unfortunately the time has come to raise some cash and since it doesn't get used a lot here I decided to sell it after all. Anyone interested please email me. I'm near London, Uk.

I am in the market to buy an MLA-3, two have come up.
Any idea which rev I should be looking for and which one I should be avoiding?

I'm quite interested to know how this turned out too.

Was the main PCB on the Rev7 MLA3 redesigned for surface mount electronics? Has anyone lifted the lid on their respective boxes?

No, all Maselec gear is made with through hole parts.

(Note lots of good gear is made with surface mount parts, horses for courses).
