Any of you guys use such plugs/processors in mastering.

Tranx from waves and
Trans modder from Voxengo

I have used the Sony Oxford Transient Modulator and Waves TransX, but not the Voxengo Transmodder. I have also used several hardware devices such as the SPL Transient Designer.

My general impression is that these units may be more useful on individual instruments than on mixes. I've had some success using the plugs on very sparse acoustic instrument-based mixes, but, as a gross generalisation, my opinion is that the plugins introduce an artificial colouration which cancels out any benefits the dynamic enhancements may bring.

yep

not for mastering but for individual sounds in the mix

eg :

you could mix your drums / percusion to a stereo-bus and throw the Sony Oxford Inflator on that.

Especially nice to bring up the kick without mudding the mix in electronic music

or, to emphasize strumming of acoustic guitars etc .... in the mix is the way to go

What has sparked my interest in the matter is at PSW we are doing a little mastering
thing.

WUMP

a few guys master the track and compare results.

Some highly respected ME's used Trans mod on the tune.

here from the waves trans-x manual.... what the device does:

While normal dynamics processors detect when the level goes over a certain
reference level, the Trans-X detects when gain rises faster than a certain
velocity reference; hence the signal can be low at times and higher at other
times or even fade out gradually, and the transient attacks will still be detected
and re-shaped as required.

where is it implied that this type of device less suitable for mastering than any other type of dynamics processor? a lot of dynamics processors add some color...so ?

i used it as part of a parallel mastering chain. no regrets; it works.

Hey Pingu,

hereยดs a link to a nice PlugIn. Itยดs free. So you can mess around
with "a transient PlugIn" on your mix.

Have fun!

i forgot, because osx users can't have it. but these are all high quality plug-ins... sascha works for magix now... from the digital fish phones website:

Important notes (due to popular demand):
- No, no additional Mac ports. In particular, no endorphin & dominion for OSX. I am asked over and over again, but as said: no way
- No, no ever-so-simple additions, improvements, bugfixes, customizations to the existing plugins. Pointless to ask because I've stopped developing that freeware long ago.
- No, no ports to other plugin formats such as RTAS.
- Most popular question: 'What can I do for you?'/'Do you want something in return for the plugins?'. Yeah, of course: go and buy a copy of Samplitude
