Transparent Mastering EQ Plugins for Pro Tools MAC or Hardware EQ Weiss

I am aware of the current thread "Best Mastering Plugins..." ,

I am looking to see if there is anything of the quality/transparency differences between the Weiss or any other hardware EQ vs. plug-in eq's for mastering for Mac/Pro Tools? I'm ooking to use this for cut before I use analog equipment for mastering.

I've seen the opinions for the most transparent accurate EQ Plug-ins for mastering on these forums are mostly for PC.

For Pro Tools on the Mac, check out MDW 3.0 by Massenburg design works, it's emulated on the GML 8200 & works with RTAS or TDM. Of course there is also Flux Epure II for TDM/RTAS, Ozone's built in Linear Phase EQ (RTAS) is very respectable, PSP's Neon HR (RTAS) is reportedly quite good. Also don't overlook the possibility of porting VST plugs to RTAS with FXpansion's VST-RTAS Wrapper. You could get the LP10 for a cheap donation & wrap it to RTAS works great.

Hope this helps.

I find this EQ very impressive. The most transparent plug-in I've heard.

The attractive, large GUI is easy to navigate as well.

These guys have done their homework, actually designed an EQ suitable for mastering.

The trade-off is the price, the CPU load, and the limit of 8 instances.

Not sure the TDM version is really needed, seems like the RTAS would suffice.

I'm thinking of buying all the FLUX plug-ins and selling all our Waves bundles.

Cheers - JT

The Flux Epure is a very good eq, though it doesn't sound different from any other standard minimum phase eq such as the bundled Logic EQ.

It does however offer some nice flexibility for mastering in terms of M/S and multichannel equalizing, morphing preset slider, 2x gain, inverse gain, and a very nice GUI.

The Flux Solera and Alchemist is where you get to hear the differences too, those are some superb digital compressors/expanders for mastering.

I've used Flux epure for a while now and it is one of the very few plugins that has depth to it, sounds very clean. The Flux stuff is really good even the free bittersweetII is really good.

Re: Vs. Weiss EQ1

Thanks for the feedback. Have any of you had experience with the Flux, etc. compared with the weiss eq-1 or eq1-lp?

well yeah the weiss is better, it is also ten times the price

flux epure is very nice clean eq, for a plug in it will get you in the weiss ballpark

(i'm not an m.e. but i've heard the weiss being used on my tracks)
